EPCOT Center is the second park to open at Walt Disney World. This innovative park reflects the need for world conservation and human responsibility to preserve the planet. The park features The World Showcase where you can “visit” several countries to sample foods and goods from their part of the world. The nighttime show Illuminations is just spectacular.
Heckscher Playground is near the southwest corner of Central Park and Columbus Circle and is great (one of our kids’ favorites). There are slides, swings, climbing structures, a sand area to play in, and water jets in the summer months. Lots of room to run. It’s definitely walkable from Times Square. Much of New York is stroller-friendly. The problem is crowds in certain areas. Certainly Times Square and neighboring streets can be very hard to get a stroller through at pretty much anytime of the day.

Not only will you get a chance to admire spectacular blooms, there are also sculptures, lakes, water fountains and interactive features for kids. U.S. travelers have historically overlooked Mauritius in favor of other Indian Ocean destinations like the Seychelles and Maldives. That could all change, though, now that this remote, idyllic island some 1,200 miles off the African coast has become easier to reach. A flurry of new airline services launched at the end of 2017: KLM began servicing Mauritius from Amsterdam, and British carrier Thomas Cook Airlines introduced biweekly flights in November. Upon arrival, travelers can take in dreamy lagoon views from the newly reopened One&Only Le Saint Géran, fresh off a multimillion-dollar renovation. Every room and suite now has a private terrace or balcony, marble baths with cascade showers, and sophisticated teak, stone, and leather accents. Guests can also look forward to updated dining experiences — like lunch spot La Pointe, which grills fresh-caught seafood over firewood and coconut embers, or open-air restaurant La Terrasse, which offers Mauritian specialties. Unchanged at Le Saint Géran is its aura of exclusivity, thanks to the resort’s unique position on a private peninsula jutting out from the island’s eastern shore. —Melanie Lieberman

This Four Seasons sits on a large, attractive beach on the small island of Nevis. The gorgeous rooms here may be the highlight; the updated decor has a Ralph Lauren-like look, with a blue-and-yellow scheme accented by pops of color and dark wood furniture; the massive bathrooms feature separate showers and tubs. Plus, almost all rooms have beautiful views, of either mountains or the ocean. The hotel’s remote location makes this a popular pick for couples on a romantic getaway. But with its long list of on-site amenities, this resort is well-suited for families as well. There are three pools, multiple tennis courts, a golf course, and a kids’ club. Other family features include child-size bathrobes, milk and cookies upon arrival (as well as a plush turtle toy and a turtle treat made by the resort’s pastry chef), a free-form infinity pool for families, baby-proofing kits upon request, 17 family suites, and DVD player in all rooms.

Despite the appearance of the uniformed security personnel, they are not considered a legal law enforcement agency. Disney and The Reedy Creek Improvement District were sued for access to Disney Security records by Bob and Kathy Sipkema following the death of their son at the resort in 1994. The court characterized Disney security as a “night watchman” service not a law enforcement agency and was not subject to Florida’s open records laws. An appeals court later upheld the lower court’s ruling.

Lovely any time of year, Fiji’s more than 300 islands are at their absolute best in July through September. “I cannot speak highly enough of how well-organized this tour was. Everything matched up to the tour description and our tour guide Nick and driver Tony made the day absolutely fantastic. Nick was very informative about all landmarks and aspects of the DC area and was happy to answer all questions that came his way. Highly recommended to anyone looking to experience the monuments and history of DC!” — TripAdvisor Reviewer
The Big Easy is celebrating its 300th anniversary all year. So don’t miss out — if any city knows how to toss a party, it’s NOLA. The Prospect.4 art expo, now through Feb. 25, features tricentennial-themed artwork by 73 international artists scattered around the city. Catch the extensive offerings of jazz concerts at intimate Preservation Hall in the French Quarter. Raise a Sazerac or Hurricane cocktail and join the festivities.
Tresanton has many imitators, but no other hotel achieves quite this successful a mix of seaside setting and sophisticated food. The gardens and terrace are gorgeous, designed with al fresco eating, drinking, cloud-gazing and sea-watching in mind. The hotel’s classic wooden yacht, Pinuccia, built in 1939, is available for skippered sails around the sheltered waters of the Fal Estuary and lovely Helford River from May to September. On arrival, children are given a fishing net to use on the tidal beach directly below the hotel with great rockpools and a floating swimming platform. The Eden Project and St Ives are easy day trips away. Read expert review

The Emerald Isle has seen a rush of American visitors recently, spurred by favorable exchange rates and increased airlift. If you haven’t yet made the trip, now’s the time to go. Adare Manor, a hotel set in a grand 19th-century mansion on 840 acres of rolling County Limerick countryside, reopened in November after an 18-month overhaul. The picturesque estate now has a new 42-room wing, a redesigned golf course, and the first La Mer Spa in the British Isles. Ireland’s whiskey scene has been quietly blooming for the last decade, and recently historic estates have embraced the trend. In August, Slane Castle in County Meath opened its new distillery to the public, and later this year, the iconic Powerscourt Estate in County Wicklow will debut its own craft facility. In Dublin, Pearse Lyons, a wealthy Irishman with Kentucky-bourbon bona fides, recently opened his namesake distillery in the former St. James’s Church, and more whiskey destinations with visitor centers are soon to come from the Dublin Liberties and Roe & Co. And now that Luas, Dublin’s light rail system, has finally completed its latest expansion, getting around the city is a breeze — the $433-million project has linked two lines and added new stops near many of the city center’s most popular sights. —Lila Battis
Yellowstone is a massive, nearly 4,000-square-mile park that hosts more geothermal features, including hot springs, mud spots and geysers, than anywhere else on Earth. Here you can be mesmerized by most famous, Old Faithful, which shoots steam as high as 185 feet into the sky every 90 minutes, along with many other lesser-known geysers, mud pots and brilliant multi-colored hot springs like Grand Prismatic Spring, named for its striking array of colors that match the rainbow dispersion of white light by an optical prism of orange, yellow, red, green and blue. The park is also famous for its wildlife, with an abundance of bison, elk and Bighorn sheep, along with wolves and bears. By staying just outside the park, you’ll find multiple budget-friendly options, like Kelly Inn West Yellowstone.
Tickets With Park Hopper Plus (gate price for admission to any of the four theme parks, including visiting more than one per day, plus extra water park and other fun visits, including tax) – 3-day or longer tickets will be $21.30 less when purchased in advance.

We are a family of five (children 9, 11, 12) staying in the times square area. What are some definite sights we need to go to with our children that is pocket friendly/free 🙂 to make this a memorable vacation? Also what are some good places to eat in that location?
Cool summer temperatures, just reaching the low 70s, make this mountain community a great place for escaping the summer heat to enjoy hiking, biking, and exploring.
