Calcot is a shining example of how luxury and family-friendliness need not be mutually exclusive. There is a good choice of family rooms – these have baby listening devices tuned into the reception desk so you can dine at ease, safe in the knowledge that you’ll be alerted if there are any problems. As well as the indoor kids’ section, there’s a pirate ship outdoor play area. In addition, there’s an Ofsted-registered creche and indoor and outdoor play spaces. The brasserie-style Gumtree Inn restaurant has a specially devised children’s menu. Read expert review

Thailand has it all: good food, friendly people and a fascinating culture. Start a Thailand Family Holiday in Bangkok, where you can ride through the city’s famous canals and see the Temple of the Emerald Buddha.  In Kanchanaburi, stop for the night where two rivers converge (they were featured in the film, Bridge on the River Kwai). Head north to Chiang Mai to visit a temple (you may hear Buddhist monks chanting at the end of the day). Kids will like the Northern Thai Doll Museum, where over 400 handmade dolls represent Thai culture and dress. Later, tour one of the biggest aquariums in Southeast Asia, Sea Life Bangkok Ocean World, and shop in Bangkok for everything from Jimmy Choo shoes to flower garlands and live crabs.

The Chicago DisneyQuest location was closed in September 2001.[50] Disney Parks started the Adventures by Disney tour vacation business in 2005.[51] Disney entered a float, “The Most Magical Celebration on Earth”, into the 2006 Pasadena Tournament of Roses parade.[CDC 19]
Disney had plans to build a Disneyland in Sydney, Australia, between 2007 and 2008 with the proposed name “Disney Wharf at Sydney Harbour”, but the concept was abandoned due to mixed responses in the New South Wales Government.[80]
Of the thirty-four resorts and hotels on the Walt Disney World property, twenty-eight are owned and operated by Walt Disney Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products. These are classified into four categories — Deluxe, Moderate, Value, and Disney Vacation Club Villas — and are located in one of five resort areas: the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Wide World of Sports, Animal Kingdom, or Disney Springs resort areas.

This Four Seasons sits on a large, attractive beach on the small island of Nevis. The gorgeous rooms here may be the highlight; the updated decor has a Ralph Lauren-like look, with a blue-and-yellow scheme accented by pops of color and dark wood furniture; the massive bathrooms feature separate showers and tubs. Plus, almost all rooms have beautiful views, of either mountains or the ocean. The hotel’s remote location makes this a popular pick for couples on a romantic getaway. But with its long list of on-site amenities, this resort is well-suited for families as well. There are three pools, multiple tennis courts, a golf course, and a kids’ club. Other family features include child-size bathrobes, milk and cookies upon arrival (as well as a plush turtle toy and a turtle treat made by the resort’s pastry chef), a free-form infinity pool for families, baby-proofing kits upon request, 17 family suites, and DVD player in all rooms.
The first of three expansion theme lands at Hong Kong Disneyland, Toy Story Land, opens on November 18, 2011.[66] Grizzly Gulch opens at Hong Kong Disneyland on July 13, 2012.[67] The final land of this expansion, Mystic Point, opened at Hong Kong Disneyland on May 17, 2013.[68]
One of the best shows at Disney is playing right outside your room at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. From your private balcony overlooking the 43-acre wildlife preserve, you can spot over 200 birds and animals, including zebras, giraffes, and gazelles. The resort also has a savannah-facing swimming pool modeled after a natural watering hole—but with a waterslide. Only a short walk away, you’ll find an animal observation water playground with squirting Venus flytraps, a rope bridge, and water cannons. In the evening, drop the kids at Simba’s Playhouse and enjoy a parents-only dinner at Jiko, an upscale restaurant serving African-inspired cuisine. Then make a reservation for the whole family to tour the grounds by open-air truck. With the assistance of special night-vision goggles, you’ll be able to wish all the animals a good night.
When Easter falls in April (April 16 In 2017), visitors can enjoy the fantastic hats that strollers show off for the annual Easter Parade on Fifth Avenue between 49th and 57th streets. Even the dogs don bonnets for the occasion. The parade runs from around 10 a.m. to mid-afternoon.
Holiday Weekends: During most times of the year, you can get away with last minute vacation planning, but major holidays like New Year’s, Memorial Day, Labor Day and Christmas often mean sold out airline seats and hotel rooms, so it’s a good idea to do your research and reservations ahead of time. People often postpone trip planning because it’s difficult to decide where to go and what to do. Browse our ideas by month section which includes suggestions for every month of the year as well as Valentine’s Day, Mothers & Fathers Days, fall foliage trips, 4th of July events and other trip ideas for families and couples.
You won’t find any place good (even decent) in Manhattan at those prices. Your best bet is something on Airbnb that’s in Queens but on a subway line. But yes, you’ll get a big discrepancy in Airbnb reviews. Airbnb is very social for some which makes it hard to give a negative honest review. Instead guests feel pressured to say something nice since they met the host and stayed in their house and chatted about their families. Also, expectations of guests can be very different. When it comes to Airbnb be prepared for anything. I’ve had friends stay at Airbnbs that had pages of 5 star reviews and the place was a dump.
These hotels make it their business to cater to guests of all ages, from tiny first-time flyers to seasoned travelers. Take the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea, which will arrange childproofed rooms, but also has a concierge who specializes in family travel, to help parents choose kid-friendly dining options and plan unforgettable adventures around island.
A family-friendly gem in Lower Manhattan. Wall Street, the 9/11 Memorial, Brooklyn Bridge, and ferries to the Statue of Liberty are nearby. Subway just out the door. Standard rooms are comfortable and stylish or upgrade to a suite and enjoy extra space with separate sleep and living spaces. Glass-enclosed heated pool is very kid-friendly. Phone: 212-693-2001

The Times Square area offers the greatest choice of hotels, but the Upper West Side has some advantages. It is much less crowded, offers proximity to Central Park and the American Museum of Natural History and easy transportation via bus or subway to Times Square.
If you and your kids love the water, head to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. At properties like Sea Mist, guests can get free unlimited access to its water park as well as discount passes to the Family Kingdom Amusement Park and Splashes Oceanfront Water Park.
New York offers some other unique walks that won’t cost a dime. One adventure not to be missed is the 1.3 mile walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, high above the East River with endless panoramas of the skyscrapers of Wall Street and Lower Manhattan. The photos will be your favorite souvenirs.

A must-do excursion is Stingray City, where kids can touch, feed and snorkel with giant wild stingrays. There are a number of tour operators, but we recommend a half-day excursion with Captain Marvin’s. The affordable two- and three-bedroom units at Christopher Columbus Condos have full kitchens, plus access to a large pool and Seven Mile Beach.
Nearly 3 million visitors come to Waikiki, Oahu’s iconic resort area, each year. Why? Because it boasts one of Hawaii’s best beaches, with tons of watersports, dining and shopping options. Plus, attractions like a zoo and an aquarium promise fun for all ages.
A family-friendly Costa Rica trip offers jungles filled with chattering birds, monkeys and other wildlife, black sand beaches, waterfalls, hot springs and much more. Let the kids look for endangered green macaws or snorkel and surf. Zip-lining and rafting experiences are also available, along with hiking through the canopy walkways in Montverde Cloud Forest. Drift down the canals at Tortuguero National Park, known as a nesting spot for green sea turtles, leatherbacks and Hawksbill turtles (you’ll need a guide to explore the beaches at night, when the females usually arrive to lay eggs).
The Park Hopper option can be added after the initial ticket purchase. For instance, if you buy a 7-day ticket and decide on the 2nd day of your vacation that you’d like to “hop” between parks, you can add the Park Hopper option for $79.88. Upgrades are allowed within the first 14 days (day of first use plus 13 days) OR before midnight on the day you use the last admission, whichever comes first.
Although this Playa del Carmen hotel includes “liquor drips” with free tequila right in your hotel room, it’s not a destination for spring breakers as no parties are allowed in rooms, and no wild partying can happen on the property either. It does, however, offer a good time at a budget price, surrounded by tropical palms on a beautiful powdery white sand beach. The buffet restaurant serves up a wide variety of dishes, and there are also themed international restaurants and live cooking shows, included in the all-inclusive packages. Guests can also enjoy swimming in the freshwater pool set right next to the sea, and indulging in a variety of treatments and massage at the Renova Spa. Entertainment is offered daily and includes dancing, live music and shows.
Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, officially Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Worldwide, Inc. and informally known as Disney Parks, was one of The Walt Disney Company’s four major business segments and a subsidiary.[1] The company was responsible for the conception, building, and managing of Disney theme parks and vacation resorts, as well as a variety of family-oriented leisure enterprises. It was founded in 1971, following the opening of Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World in Florida.
Disney Publishing Worldwide started mining Disney Parks with its The Kingdom Keepers series. The first novel of the series, Disney after Dark, was released in 2005.[96] A five-book series was laid out by Pearson, but was extended to seven with the first book’s success.[104]

On Wednesday, admission is free at the Bronx Zoo, the largest city zoo in America, home to some 4000 animals. Many city museums also have free admission, usually in the late afternoon. Kids often are intrigued by the spiral design of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Guggenheim Museum and it is free from 5:45 to 8 p.m. on Saturdays. You can visit the famous Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) free after 3 p.m. on Friday (note that kids under 18 are free at MOMA anytime).
Located about an hour north of Pensacola, right on the Alabama line, sits the small town of Century, previously known as the village of “Teaspoon.” An old timber mill, retired railroads, and other preserved sites keep the memories alive of a Southern mill town that was built on the hope for a successful, lasting settlement that would exist long beyond the economically booming years of the timber mill. In the heart of century lies the James Houston Jones Historic Park, home to three museums operated by the Alger-Sullivan Historical Society, which are free of charge and open to the public. Starting with the Leach House, explore the everyday life of century natives at the turn of the 20th century in the original Leach home place. Next, take a tour of the boxcar museum, which features actual railcars, parts, pictures, and maps that demonstrate countless miles of travel throughout the southeast dating back to the 1800s. Lastly, stop by the 1913 post office museum, a dedication to memorabilia from the old mill, past post offices, and other sites that played a huge role in Century’s development. After the tour, books written by members of the historical society allow you to continue your journey through time as you learn about how one small piece of the South endured through a changing industry, as well as other obstacles of that time period. These books are available for your viewing on-site or for purchase. One of Escambia County’s best-kept secrets, a day-trip to Century is a great way to expand your knowledge of our Gulf Coast history. For available hours, call the society President, Jerry Fischer, at 850-256-3980
With ten pools, a sprawling (45,000-square-foot) water park, a shopping center, a spa complex, and more restaurants than you can shake a breadstick at, the family-friendly Beaches is one of the most features-heavy resorts in Turks and Caicos. With a pirate-themed Sesame Street Treasure Caravan; 12 miles of white sand beach; pools staffed by lifeguards; Pirate’s Island Waterpark featuring two waterslides; AND Crayola Art Camps (whew!), your little ones can be entertained while you head for a rum punch. For the tweens and teens, there’s a Martha Stewart Crafts Studio, a (teen-appropriate) nightclub and lounge, an Xbox games garage, and even a DJ academy.
Family vacations create lasting memories of a slower pace of life, fun activities and new adventures. If your kids are young, it may be easier to drive to your weekend destination. Older kids can have fun exploring a new city, unique museums and historical sights. Be sure to leave plenty of time for family dinners, group activities and relaxation by the pool.
Unique Museums: If you are traveling with someone who considers museums boring, you can change their mind by taking them to someplace unique and exciting, like the International Spy Museum in Washington, DC or the National Mustard Museum in Middleton, Wisconsin.
Kids can learn patois, the local dialect in Saint Lucia, as part of the Kids Club offerings at St. James’s Club Morgan Bay. Tots’ yoga classes, cooking classes and mocktail lessons are here too, all aimed at giving kids a taste of the local culture for no extra fee.
The New Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom opened on December 6, 2012. It is the biggest upgrade to the theme park since its opening in 1971.[59] Announced along with its new Star Wars Land expansion at the D23 Expo on August 15, 2015, Hollywood Studios was slated to have a version of Toy Story Land.[60]

In Tennyson’s famous poem, the eagle was ‘ring’d with the azure world’ – and so it is at Eagles Villas, where the Aegean Sea takes centre stage for aquatic adventures, from snorkeling and sailing to scuba diving. There’s plenty for land-loving littl’uns, too: tennis courts and an excellent kids’ club will free you up to be buffed and scrubbed at the spa, or to clink glasses at the mellow beach bar.
Staying in NYC four nights from December 17-21. We have two kids ages 9 and 6. We would like to stay in a nice hotel. What would you recommend between The Beacon and Le Parker Meridian? Or something else altogether? I would very much appreciate any suggestion/advice you have…very hard to tell from pictures alone the quality and location of hotel.
A gondola lift system, dubbed Disney Skyliner, is under construction as of June 2018. The system’s three lines will connect Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot with four resort hotels.[19] Completion is expected some time in 2019.
Summery daytime temperatures in the mid-80s and cool nights make July a lovely time to visit Santa Fe. The city’s well-known creative culture is in full bloom, with the four-day Art Santa Fe show set for July 12-15, this year presenting contemporary art from around the world. The Traditional Spanish Market to be held in downtown Santa Fe on July 28-29 will feature the work of around 250 Spanish colonial artists with woodcarving, tinwork, weaving, jewelry, pottery, ironwork and more. Music lovers come for the month-long Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival beginning July 15. For opera fans, the annual festival will include performances of Madame Butterfly and Candide. Hiking, horseback riding, biking, and simply taking in the views of the nearby Sangre de Cristo Mountains will keep visitors busy when they’re not enjoying the art and music. The Four Seasons Resort Rancho Encantado would make a perfect home base no matter what your other plans are.
Walt Disney World began operation on October 1, 1971, with the Magic Kingdom park at a cost of $400 million. The Magic Kingdom had six themed lands: Main Street, Adventureland, Fantasyland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, and Tomorrowland.[CDW 7] Additionally, Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort campground and two hotels, Disney’s Contemporary Resort and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, also opened.[CDW 8]
Today, Walt Disney World is the most visited vacation resort in the world, with an average annual attendance of over 52 million.[3] The resort is the flagship destination of Disney’s worldwide corporate enterprise, and has become a popular staple in American culture.

It’s no secret that Fiji is home to some of the world’s most spectacular scenery — powdery beaches fringed with palms, crystalline waters with colorful reefs, and rugged coastlines covered in greenery. But the islands’ new crop of luxury accommodations is making a case for the archipelago’s man-made phenomena as well. At the exclusive, family-owned Kokomo Private Island Resort, which is spread across 140 acres of dense tropical rain forest and white-sand beaches, guests will have their pick of 21 beach villas (among the most spacious in Fiji) and four hilltop residences featuring infinity pools and walled tropical gardens. If you’re a diver, you’re in luck: the Great Astrolabe Reef, which is teeming with kaleidoscopic corals and exotic marine life (like reef sharks, rays, and dolphinfish), is in the resort’s backyard. The luxury ante will only be upped in March when a Six Senses debuts on Malolo Island. Set on a private beach, the boutique property will offer the brand’s namesake spa and wellness offerings (including yoga, meditation, and nutrition and sleep counseling), plus a restaurant with ingredients sourced from the resort garden. Also slated to open in 2018: Nihi Fiji, from hotelier James McBride and Christopher Burch — the same duo behind Nihi Sumba Island, which Travel + Leisure readers named the best hotel in the world for 2017. —Melanie Lieberman
Best Family Vacations Whether you want to take a trip to a relatively undiscovered destination or vacation in a famous resort town, the choice of the best vacation spots will depend on your budget and personal preferences. A wide range of inexpensive family vacations are available just a short drive away, inviting you to go on a two day trip or a week long getaway. Popular places to visit with kids include San Francisco, Portland and Washington, D.C. Kids of all ages will be kept busy at children’s museums, great parks, botanical gardens, kid-friendly restaurants and unique hands-on attractions. For a quieter family holiday, consider a full service resort on the beach or one with a waterpark near you.
The Soho Grand Hotel is great. The one-bedroom comfortably sleeps a family of 4. Lots of style and a very cool bar off the lobby (2nd floor). Lucky Strike is a french bistro just around the corner (very good). Broome Street Bar is two blocks away and has a relaxed local vibe. Both allow kids.
Since the government’s 2016 peace deal with the FARC paramilitary group, memories of Colombia’s civil war have begun fading. As a result, new parts of the country are becoming accessible — among them the Pacific coast, which contains a once-dangerous strip of virgin beach and rain forest known as El Chocó. Regular commercial flights now connect travelers from Bogotá and Medellín to the fishing villages of Nuquí and Bahía Solano. From there, small boats run along the shore to chic eco-lodges like Punta Brava, which sits above two private beaches, and El Cantil Ecolodge, which is near surf breaks and a thermal spring. —Nicholas Gill
Walt Disney had originally planned to publicly reveal Disney World on November 15, 1965, but in light of the Sentinel story, Disney asked Florida Governor Haydon Burns to confirm the story on October 25. His announcement called the new theme park “the greatest attraction in the history of Florida”.[8] The official reveal was kept on the previously-planned November 15 date, and Disney joined Burns in Orlando for the event.[8]
Many of the live shows at WDW are described in our individual park sections above, but there are also some parades and shows that warrant special mention. We’ve also included a generous selection of photos when it’s warranted:
The Epcot theme park has two separate sections: Future World and World Showcase. Future World is home to attractions such as Soarin’, Mission: SPACE, Test Track and the iconic Spaceship Earth, the massive sphere just inside the park entrance. World Showcase is home to 11 country-themed pavilions, including Mexico, Norway, China, Germany, Italy, Japan, Morocco, the United States, France, England and Canada. Each offers dining and shopping experiences, and most showcase a ride or movie experience as well. Participate in the Kidcot program with your children to receive a unique puppet and a stamp at each country you visit.
You can mix and match visits, use them in any order, or even use more than one in one day. Each admission or golf round counts as one visit taken off your total, even if you go on the same day. There is no “hopping” privilege for the attractions included in this add-on. You do get “in and out” privileges at the two water parks, so you can go to Blizzard Beach in the morning, go back to your hotel, and come back in the evening, and it only uses one visit off your ticket. If you go to Blizzard Beach in the morning and Typhoon Lagoon in the evening, though, that would deduct two visits.
As the biggest island in Thailand, Phuket offers tons of great beaches. Besides its clear waters and prime snorkeling stops, Phuket is also home to attractions like the Anthem Wakepark, a cable wakeboarding water park. Family-friendly accommodations can be found for under $100 per night.
Which one art museum to visit really depends on your interests. The encyclopedic Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the world’s great museums and is a must in the same way that The Louvre is a must in Paris. Sections like the hall of armor and the wall-through Egyptian tomb are of special interest to young visitors. The Met does have modern art collections, especially in its new Met Breuer building, but if your taste runs to modern, you might prefer The Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) which is equally renowned in its own special field. Children under age 12 are free at both museums. If you choose the Metropolitan, consider going on Friday or Saturday evening when hours extend to 9 p.m. and the museum is much less crowded.
Coming to NYC beginning of August with our 2 kids (7&9). We don’t really want to be in Times Square. We also want a nice hotel that has a bar we can get drinks at night. Free breakfast would also be a plus. Walking distance to restaurants (not chain). Kenleh

  1. Migis Lodge feels like a well-kept secret — and that’s exactly why we love it. It offers a fantastic “Full American Plan” getaway option for families, with wonderfully styled and luxurious cabin accommodations, daily meals, and a number of activities and kids’ programs included. Kids can learn to water ski (included!), fish, swim, kayak and more on Sebago Lake, as well as enjoy special children’s activities and the Children’s Zoo in the evenings. Families will also love the Lobster Bakes and Island Cookouts.
What’s not to love about the Caribbean? So many resorts, so little time. To help you make the most of your precious family vacations, we conducted the first-ever data-driven survey looking at the family-friendliness of Caribbean resorts. We worked with the Caribbean Tourism Organization and the Caribbean Hotel Association to compile our initial list of 159 resorts. Then we dug in. We looked at the quality of the children’s programs, staffing and safety, and a multitude of other factors to come up with our final 10. These are the best of the best!
This genteel property opened in 1887 as a summer retreat for vacationers, who arrived at the pedestrian-only island by lake steamer and by rail. Since then, generations of families have enjoyed lawn games, after-dinner dancing, and promenades along the hotel’s 660-foot-long front porch. Kids today—who stay at the hotel free or at a significantly discounted rate—can also engage in more modern activities, like Quidditch matches, butterfly house visits, duck pin bowling, movie nights, and arts and crafts. Swimming in the hotel’s serpentine-shaped pool offers hours of fun for a budding Esther Williams—it is named after the pool-and-screen star, whose 1947 movie This Time For Keeps was filmed on the island.
This nautical-themed lakeside hotel is just a short ferry ride away from Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The sleeping quarters, appointed in blues and creams, have private balconies—some overlooking the resort’s featured attraction, Stormalong Bay. This three-acre water wonderland has a sandy-bottomed swimming pool, water slides (a mini for the tadpoles and a high one atop a shipwreck for experienced swimmers), tranquil “quiet” pools, a lazy river, whirlpool spas, hot tubs, and an elevated tanning deck. Families can also play a round of mini golf or rent a boat from the marina and charter their own voyage around Crescent Lake.
