While Disney Parks generally adapt movies into rides, some Disney Park attractions and a theme land have been adapted into movies, books, comic books, and television pilots. Disney Productions, now the Walt Disney Company, entered the TV field with a network TV show named after Disneyland (which was then its only park, and was being built at the time), in order to fund the park. In this series, some episodes featured the park or a park attraction. The Walt Disney Company pioneered and is the only film company and theme park company to have converted theme park attractions to film productions. However, lackluster results were achieved for most of these films except for the Pirates Of The Caribbean series. Disney Pictures made two Pirates Of The Caribbean sequels in 2006 and 2011 that made over a billion-dollar at the box office.
Climb a sand dune to watch a fiery sunset on a Family Adventure in Southern Africa. And Botswana, in southern Africa. Tours leave from Windhoek, once a German colonial city and now the capital of Namibia. The land looks other-worldly, with its shimmering sand dunes and dried lakebeds, but this is a great place for kids (and adults) to learn about desert ecology and the region’s history. Guides lead interactive walks into the bush and explain the tracking skills and survival methods used by the San tribe, inhabitants of this area for over 30,000 years. You’ll pass hippos and elephants as you paddle canoes through the Okavango Delta, one of the best places in the country to spot animals and birds. The journey ends at Victoria Falls, known as the world’s largest waterfall, in Zimbabwe.
In 1987, Disney and Ron Brierley’s Industrial Equity (Pacific) Ltd., already a 28% owner of the Wrather Corporation, agreed to purchase the remaining Wrather Corporation stock with a 50% share each. Wrather Corporation owned the Disneyland Hotel and operated the Queen Mary and Spruce Goose tourist attractions. In March 1988, Disney purchased Industrial Equity’s half of Wrather Corporation.

HI David! Great article! Can you recommend a hotel that has suites (bedroom separate from living area). We have 2 adults and 2 kids ages 11 months and 4 years, so somewhere within walking distance of things for that age group to do would also help! Thanks so much in advance!
Between Christmas and New Years is very busy in NYC. It does start to quiet a bit into January but stores and sidewalks will still be packed. The Christmas lights will be in the department store windows (at least for a few days) and there will be ice skating but otherwise I would go in October. The weather is nicer and not as busy.

The New York City Ballet begins its spring season and Broadway plays are in full swing in April. Late in the month, the city’s gardens are at their springtime best. Be sure to see the pink crabapple trees and colorful tulips and daffodils in Central Park’s Conservatory Garden. The park also has many lovely cherry blossom trees, but the real cherry blossom show is at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden where the blooms from some 76 varieties of flowering trees are a glorious sight that inspires a Japanese festival in late April every year. Bring your camera!
One of the best shows at Disney is playing right outside your room at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. From your private balcony overlooking the 43-acre wildlife preserve, you can spot over 200 birds and animals, including zebras, giraffes, and gazelles. The resort also has a savannah-facing swimming pool modeled after a natural watering hole—but with a waterslide. Only a short walk away, you’ll find an animal observation water playground with squirting Venus flytraps, a rope bridge, and water cannons. In the evening, drop the kids at Simba’s Playhouse and enjoy a parents-only dinner at Jiko, an upscale restaurant serving African-inspired cuisine. Then make a reservation for the whole family to tour the grounds by open-air truck. With the assistance of special night-vision goggles, you’ll be able to wish all the animals a good night.
This contemporary art museum is located in the heart of the Miami art scene. Their mission is to “expand interpretation of contemporary art,” and they do so by featuring cultural influences such as fashion and architecture into their programs. The Bass too holds educational programs in high regard. (Closed for renovations until December 2016, operating out of temporary exhibition space at the Miami Beach Regional Library.)

When the Magic Kingdom opened in 1971, the site employed about 5,500 “cast members”. Today, Walt Disney World employs more than 74,000 cast members, spending more than $1.2 billion on payroll and $474 million on benefits each year. The largest single-site employer in the United States, Walt Disney World has more than 3,700 job classifications. The resort also sponsors and operates the Walt Disney World College Program, an internship program that offers American college students (CP’s) the opportunity to live about 15 miles (24 km) off-site in four Disney-owned apartment complexes and work at the resort, and thereby provides much of the theme park and resort “front line” cast members. There is also the Walt Disney World International College Program, an internship program that offers international college students (ICP’s) from all over the world the same opportunity.
On an eight-day trip with Un-Cruise, adventures include touching anemones in tide pools and looking at plankton kids have collected under the microscope. Last summer, the museum expanded its artistic footprint by over 130,000 square feet, making it the largest contemporary art space in the country. The new Building 6 houses long-term installations by artists like James Turrell, Louise Bourgeois, and Jenny Holzer. Two new museums are still in the works for North Adams, both spearheaded by former Guggenheim director Thomas Krens. At the Global Contemporary Art Museum, curators will work directly with artists to acquire and commission site-specific pieces, while the Extreme Model Railroad & Contemporary Architecture Museum will showcase works by the likes of Frank Gehry and Zaha Hadid, all built in miniature as part of an elaborate model train system. Design is also top-of-mind at Tourists, a modern take on the roadside motel that’s set to open this summer. The resort — situated on 55 acres at the convergence of the Appalachian and Mohawk Trails — will have 48 rooms, each with floor-to-ceiling windows that put the focus on surrounding vistas. —Fiorella Valdesolo

Yes, baseball season begins in early April. You can get schedules of home games and order tickets at the web sites of the New York Yankees (nyyankees.com) or the New York Mets (nymets.com). If you want better seats than the team has available, check sites like Stubhub.com and Seatgeek.com, where season ticket holders often sell tickets for games they cannot attend. When the teams are playing out of town, both stadiums offer behind-the-scenes tours, with the chance to visit locker rooms and dugouts, see some of the expensive private boxes, and actually go on the field. Much of Walt Disney’s plans for his Progress City were abandoned after his death and after the company board decided that it did not want to be in the business of running a city. The concept evolved into the resort’s second theme park, EPCOT Center, which opened in 1982 (renamed EPCOT in 1996). While still emulating Walt Disney’s original idea of showcasing new technology, the park is closer to a world’s fair than a “community of tomorrow”. One of EPCOT’s main attractions is their world’s showcase which highlights 11 countries across the globe. Some of the urban planning concepts from the original idea of EPCOT would instead be integrated into the community of Celebration much later. The resort’s third theme park, Disney-MGM Studios (renamed Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2008), opened in 1989 and is inspired by show business. The resort’s fourth theme park, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, opened in 1998.
Lastly, what would be your suggestion for seeing the main attractions (central park, statue of liberty, times square, empire state building, Brooklyn bridge, The National September 11 Memorial)? How long would we need to stay to visit the sites and not feel like we’re in the NYC marathon?
