In addition to fantastic views of the Kalapaki Bay, this property boasts the largest single-level swimming pool in Hawaii (26,000 square feet) and a Jack Nicklaus-designed championship golf course. Beachcombers will love the 800 acres of beach, where they can try boogie boarding, swimming, sailing, and canoeing. Break for lunch at one of the resort’s five al fresco restaurants. “We have been there as a family,” said one World’s Best voter, “and as a couple for a romantic anniversary celebration.”
Locals refer to Long Beach as one giant playground, so families are certainly welcome here. And there’s one place you really can’t miss. More than 11,000 creatures await you at the Aquarium of the Pacific—you can even touch and feed some of them. Learn about all the animals of the ocean and the importance of conserving their environment. Long Beach also has lots of family-oriented places to eat and plenty of fun watery activities, including boat tours.
We have a very active 7 year old child and need a kid-friendly hotel near a good Manhattan playground. Not picky about neighborhood – any safe, reasonably central area with a subway station will do. But if it were a cool neighborhood then that’s even better. Budget not a concern. Thanks, Jay.

The Prospect.4 art expo, now through Feb. 25, features tricentennial-themed artwork by 73 international artists scattered around the city. Catch the extensive offerings of jazz concerts at intimate Preservation Hall in the French Quarter. Raise a Sazerac or Hurricane cocktail and join the festivities.
The vibe on the Florida Space Coast is, overall, beachy and relaxed, but a vacationer’s experience depends largely on the activity you choose. Of course, they don’t call it the “Space Coast” for nothing. The thrill of watching rockets launch from Cape Canaveral, whether up close or miles away, never gets old. In fact, launches still occur, with SpaceX rockets on the launch calendar for 2017. Kennedy Space Center reveals space-centric surprises, from the earliest days of space exploration to the exciting Shuttle Launch Experience and behind-the-gates tours.
This year is San Antonio’s 300th anniversary, and the city is marking the occasion with events, activities, and new infrastructure. Ahead of the festivities, there’s been a flurry of development: In the past few months, the botanical gardens completed an expansion; the city’s first food hall, the Bottling Department, debuted at the Pearl; and San Antonio’s iconic passenger barges got an upgrade, with colorful electric models replacing the old gas-fueled boats. In January, the city will unveil Confluence Park, an expanse of trails and science-focused education facilities near the convergence of San Pedro Creek and the San Antonio River. A commemorative week is planned for early May, with celebrations at each of San Antonio’s five missions and the dedication of San Pedro Creek Culture Park, a once-unremarkable drainage ditch that’s been transformed into a waterfront promenade with public art and performance spaces. Ruby City, a new David Adjaye–designed art center that will house more than 800 pieces from the Linda Pace Foundation Collection, is expected to be completed at the end of 2018. And boutique stays still in the works — including a Thompson Hotel and the third location of the Saint Hotel — hint that San Antonio’s heyday is just beginning. —Devorah Lev-Tov
Before you visit Peru, consult with your tour company and/or doctor about how to acclimate to its altitude, and what you should or should not do while you’re there, so you and your family won’t become sick. Some Peruvian cities are over 10,000 feet high.
You can see some great city landmarks free if you just take a stroll east on 42nd Street. Stop into the awesome New York Public Library at Fifth Avenue, look at the amazing zodiac ceiling inside Grand Central Terminal at Vanderbilt Avenue, visit the Art Deco lobby of the Chrysler Building with a painted ceiling that shows transportation scenes of the late 1920s and admire the sleek headquarters of the United Nation along the East River.
It was reported in August 2014 that beginning in 2015, Disney planned to expand the presence of Star Wars throughout their theme parks (though it was initially unclear which parks) and could also create an entire theme park area dedicated to the film franchise. Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger indicated that plans were to match what Universal Orlando did when they expanded and added a Harry Potter themed section to two of their theme parks. In 2012, Disney acquired Lucasfilm, which includes the rights to the Star Wars franchise and Indiana Jones franchise (which is also expected to see an increase in presence at the theme parks), and in December 2015, Disney released Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the first of a new trilogy of films.[better source needed] Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge was announced on August 15, 2015 as Star Wars Land, and is currently under construction at the Disneyland Resort in California and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida. Both lands are set to open in 2019. At D23 Expo 2017, Disney Parks chairman Bob Chapek revealed Galaxy’s Edge as the area’s official name, announcing an attraction set inside the hangar bay of a First Order Star Destroyer. The Disneyland version of Galaxy’s Edge is currently slated to open first, with the Walt Disney World version following later in 2019. In addition, it was announced that a Star Wars-themed hotel and resort are planned for Walt Disney World; the company aims for guest experiences to be “100% immersive”, with Chapek claiming that each guest’s stay will “culminate in a unique journey”.
More than forty years after being founded, the resort now features 10 lifts, 169 runs and an uphill capacity of 17,400 people. The resort also offers ice skating, snow tubing, snowshoe tours and luge sleds. Parents can unwind with a stone massage or herbal wrap at the luxurious Cliff Spa.
You might balk at the idea of sticky fingers in Sublime Comporta’s pristine villas. But children (if slightly older ones) are warmly welcomed here. Family days out run to gentle beach picnics, kayaking in the Açude, surfing and biking. Thrilling gallops (or lazy lollops) on horseback take in verdant farmland. All that, and it’s so close to Lisbon, you’ll barely hear the ‘are-we-there-yets’.

As a bonus, you can also enjoy a tropical cocktail by the pool while watching your kiddos.
Working strictly in secrecy, real estate agents unaware of their client’s identity began making offers to landowners in April 1964 in parts of southwest Orange and northwest Osceola counties. The agents were careful not to reveal the extent of their intentions, and they were able to negotiate numerous land contracts with some including large tracts of land for as little as $100 an acre. With the understanding that the recording of the first deeds would trigger intense public scrutiny, Disney delayed the filing of paperwork until a large portion of the land was under contract.

Often overlooked in favor of more-developed, splashier neighbors like Hvar or Brač, Šolta’s under-the-radar nature has proved a boon: The stony islet has become synonymous with pristine nature (pebbly beaches, turquoise waters, lush greenery), medieval villages, winemaking (try the indigenous Dobričić variety), and family-run olive oil purveyors like Olynthia, a fourth-generation producer. After watching the sun set at Maslinica bay, check out the island’s peppering of stylish beach clubs, seaside bars, and open-air restaurants — then drop your bags at the Heritage Hotel Martinis-Marchi, built inside an 18th-century Venetian fort-castle and ideally situated for those who want to explore Šolta’s ancient villages and crystal-clear bays. —Kate Springer
