“There is no other city like New Orleans. So much history. A beautiful city. The people know how to make visitors feel welcomed, said one T+L survey respondent, while another described its color, incredible food, and famous festivals. This year, NOLA took the top spot for bachelor or bachelorette parties, festivals, and dining and drinking.
There’s something about the start of a new year that gives us the travel itch, so we thought we’d put together a list of 30 hot cities to visit in 2018. Some of the destinations may already occupy a special place in your heart, but we hope you also find a few new and surprising spots to fall in love with.
Unsurprisingly, a vibrant music scene (including excellent karaoke bars) helped propel Nashville to the top of the list. It was also deemed one of the best cities in the nation for a bachelor or bachelorette party.
International Boulevard is not an inappropriately named major thoroughfare. But Orlando probably never will get the credit it deserves as a truly cosmopolitan city as long as its world-famous theme parks make it family entertainment capital of the galaxy. Even so, visitors with refined appetites are discovering a city of art, culture and great food. See why Orlando is the perfect place for a city vacation.

After you’ve had your fill of the forest, head northwest to the shores of Lake Erie, where you can swim, boat, and picnic at one of many lakefront state parks. These include Catawba Island, Kelleys Island, and East Harbor. For manmade thrills, ride the 17 world-famous roller coasters at Cedar Point, an amusement park of mythic proportions.
The primary law enforcement agency in the township is the Piscataway Police Department.[109] Rutgers University Police Department operates on its campuses within Piscataway. The New Jersey State Police patrols the section of Interstate 287 that bisects the town.
Other highlights nearby include Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore—where sand dunes as high as 450 feet tower next to the water—and picture-perfect Mackinac Island. This roughly 4-square-mile speck in Lake Huron charms visitors with its colorful 19th-century architecture and quiet streets where cars are banned. Most of the island is verdant parkland, however; its best-known natural landmark is Arch Rock, a limestone formation arcing 150 feet above the shoreline. A trip to the island wouldn’t be complete without stopping at one of the many fudge shops. An island staple since the 1800s, the candy is still made using the technique of “paddling” hot, chocolatey liquid on marble slabs until it cools.
You’d be hard-pressed to find a more outdoorsy city than Boulder, where the cool mountain air becomes especially inviting during the summer. This place has perfected the balance between the cosmopolitan and the rugged: The Boulder Contemporary Art Museum, the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Boulder Ballet coexist with over 300 miles of hiking and biking trails, including the Boulder Creek Path, which runs directly through the city.
Located just 30 miles from Boston, the quiet New England hamlet of Essex is ideally situated for fun on the water, given its proximity to both the Essex River and Essex Bay. Kayaking, boating, deep-sea fishing, and sunbathing on beaches are all appealing options. Those waterways have also played a huge role in shaping the town’s history; it’s known for Essex clams and a rich tradition of shipbuilding. You can learn all about that craft at the town’s shipbuilding museum, which showcases the beautiful wooden vessels that were Essex’s specialty in the past. And speaking of the past, Essex is home to more than 25 antique shops, where you can pick up everything from nautical knickknacks to early American furnishings. Sunset boat cruises narrated by local guides make a nice capper to the day.
Named the “Restaurant City of the Year” by Bon Appétit, Chicago is a hot destination for foodies. Must-eats include the Au Cheval burger — which is frequently named among the best burgers in the country— deep dish from any number of the city’s institutions like Lou Malnati’s or Pequod’s, and anything from Alinea, which is considered one of the best restaurants in the country. The city also saw the opening of the first-ever Nutella Café this year.

SAN DIEGO: Sometimes overshadowed by its pricier neighbors to the north (Los Angeles and San Francisco), San Diego is the kind of city where you can chow down on some of America’s best Mexican and Italian cuisine (among many others), hit some of the most perfect beaches in the world, entertain your inner child (or your actual children) at the San Diego Zoo and Legoland, or party in the Gaslamp District, where gunslinger Wyatt Earp once lived. In the 2013 gubernatorial election, Democrat Barbara Buono received 50.6% of the vote (5,388 cast), ahead of Republican Chris Christie with 48.2% (5,129 votes), and other candidates with 1.1% (122 votes), among the 10,823 ballots cast by the township’s 34,170 registered voters (184 ballots were spoiled), for a turnout of 31.7%.[98][99] In the 2009 gubernatorial election, Democrat Jon Corzine received 54.9% of the vote (6,773 ballots cast), ahead of Republican Chris Christie with 37.6% (4,637 votes), Independent Chris Daggett with 6.0% (738 votes) and other candidates with 0.9% (111 votes), among the 12,334 ballots cast by the township’s 31,079 registered voters, yielding a 39.7% turnout.[100]

The park’s Going-to-the-Sun Road, a twisting, turning, mountain-hugging byway that takes visitors deep into the wilds of northern Montana, is navigable by car during the summer months—it seems a woeful understatement to call this a scenic route. If you’re hankering to get out into the woods, you can hike on the park’s 700 miles of trails, camp at one of 13 sites, or obtain a backcountry permit and go off the beaten path. Ranger-led programs, including guided hikes, talks, and boat tours, are also popular.
I think many of us know that we need to take vacations. They’re opportunities to reset and recharge, plus family vacations are a great opportunity to reconnect as a family. The next hurdle is then wondering where should I go on vacation? The lovely folks at Lonely Planet recently released their picks for the best places to visit in 2018. I’m taking their list to come up with family vacation ideas with the help of some of my family travel writing friends.
Outside of the Midwest, travelers planning beach getaways often overlook Northern Michigan. But owing to its prime location between Lakes Michigan and Huron, the region has all the sun and sand you could want—with a fraction of the crowds on the east and west coasts. Head to the charming waterfront town of Traverse City to sample the output of numerous cherry orchards, wineries, and farm-to-table restaurants, particularly on the Old Mission Peninsula, a finger of land where you can end your day watching the sunset from a quaint lighthouse.
The windy city is a cornucopia of modern art, fine dining, cutting edge comedy, and die-hard sports fans. Snap a photo of your reflection in the silver Cloud Gate sculpture at Millennium Park before heading to Grant Park to get hit with the refreshing spray of Buckingham Fountain. There are dozens of museums and theater companies in Chicago, so a cultural experience is never hard to find. You’re sure to laugh your head off at the Second City Theater, the professional launch pad of many famous comedians.
Since the opening in 1960 of Interstate Highway 287, the township has proven a highly desirable location for suburban development and many Fortune 500 companies are located in the township. The township’s prime location with easy access to the New Jersey Turnpike, the Garden State Parkway, Routes 287, 78, 22, 27, and 18 make it especially attractive to commuters and corporations alike. Despite the township’s growth, Piscataway has maintained its friendly welcoming atmosphere, making it a wonderful place to live, work and play.
Don’t miss hiking along Ithaca’s famous gorges. Popular options include Buttermilk Falls, Taughannock Falls, and the particularly spectacular Treman State Park. These trails are closed from November to April due to icy conditions, but in the warmer months they offer shady trails, dramatic vistas, and (very chilly!) swimming holes.
Shuffle off to Buffalo for some affordable activities, say T+L readers. Get your bearings at the Art Deco city hall, where the 28th floor observation deck is open to the public and offers the best vantage point in town. Next, stroll the mural-lined streets of Allentown, a historic neighborhood north of downtown now famous for its ever-expanding collection of street art. Along the spruced up waterfront, the new Canalside district comes alive with free concerts and festivals in the summer. Only slightly further afield — just 25 minutes west on I-90 — natural wonders await at Niagara Falls State Park. The oldest state park in the country, it has some of the best views of the massive falls.
By looking at the dimensions of Homicide Rate, GDP per capita, Income inequality, Corruption, and Unemployment, one thing is clear: Nigeria is hands-down the most stressed out country in the world. So who is the least??

Home to an incredibly pristine beach and peaceful atmosphere, South Carolina’s Kiawah Island, near Charleston, is at once laid-back and exclusive. It’s a gated community, with long beaches available primarily to residents and visitors staying in rental accommodations. The only public stretch of sand, Beachwalker Park, has a parking lot that only accommodates 100 cars—which means that if you’re lucky enough to snag one of them, you’ll have access to one of the least crowded sunny spots in the area.

Michigan’s second-largest city is packed with affordable attractions for visitors. Each fall, for example, the downtown hosts ArtPrize, the world’s largest art competition, in which local museums, offices, bars, and even laundromats become exhibition venues for artists from around the world. And year-round, architecture lovers will want to stroll Heritage Hill, just east of downtown. The landmarked district of 1,300 homes showcases dozens of styles of American architecture after 1843, when the city’s lumber barons first began building there. Walking the streets of a virtual open-air museum, visitors should be sure to stop by the Meyer May house, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Touring the 1909 home is free of charge, and offers an inside look inside the restored Prairie-style masterpiece.
Set in the heart of Pennsylvania’s Amish Country, Lancaster is home to a unique and particularly bountiful farming tradition. In addition to juicy heirloom tomatoes, sweet peaches, and a vast array of all things leafy and green, look for fresh flowers, jams, chutneys, and salsas, not to mention baked goods made with simple, high-quality ingredients. A few excellent spots for picking up provisions: Central Market, Columbia Market, and Bird-in-Hand Market. For even fresher goods, you can tool along the country roads and keep your eyes peeled for produce stands.
Many North American cities beckon weekend visitors: the French-inflected streets of Montreal or New Orleans, the mouthwatering cuisine of Charleston or Mexico City, the cool blue water of Austin’s Barton Springs, the lights (and gambling) of Vegas, the promise of movie stars—and delicious tacos—in LA, the photogenic streetscapes of Art Deco Miami Beach, the precise coffee of Seattle, and the craft breweries of Portland, Maine.
Piscataway is going greener!  Under a contract signed with Great Eastern Energy, 20 percent of the energy that the Township uses for municipal purposes will come from environmentally friendly, renewable sources starting on June 1, 2018, projecting to save more than 4.3 million kilowatts of fossil fuel-created electricity over the subsequent two years.

Like any place with a long, cold winter, the Finger Lakes region comes alive during the summer months, offering a bounty of fresh produce, new wines to taste, and gorge trails to hike. Ithaca, a pedestrian-friendly college town full of eclectic shops and high-quality restaurants, is an ideal home base for exploring the area. Dine outside at the Moosewood Restaurant, a famous spot that began as a vegetarian collective and spawned a series of bestselling cookbooks. Head to the Farmers Market in its permanent lakefront pavilion for a mix of local produce and prepared foods. Rent a sailboat or canoe and head out onto Cayuga Lake—or admire the water from patches of green like Stewart Park and Cass Park.
On the southern shores of Lake Erie, Cleveland, Ohio, is a leading destination for arts and culture lovers — especially those looking for an affordable alternative to other meccas like New York City. The Cleveland Museum of Arts, which holds one of the country’s greatest collections, is free of charge, and the prestigious Cleveland Orchestra offers free tickets at select concerts to anyone under 18 (a boon for families). Hear even more tunes at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where the premier instrumentalists of tomorrow regularly perform in recitals open to the public.
If you’re looking for a sleepy beach town that’s a bit under the collective public’s radar, consider heading to Delaware. Rehoboth’s seafood, lovely sunsets, and outdoor recreation opportunities rival any beach town on the Atlantic coast. Stroll or bike along the boardwalk or lounge on a stretch of sand like Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach, or Bethany Beach. You can also head into one of Delaware’s pristine coastal state parks: Cape Henlopen’s 3,000 acres affords plenty of hiking, camping, and swimming. For an easy hike, check out the Walking Dunes Trail that travels through marshland and woods, ending at the Great Dune.

Plus, the gleaming Santiago Calatrava-designed building is itself a work of art, so stop by at least to see its spired exterior. This is as green as it gets in Texas. The Hill Country between San Antonio and Austin is a rolling landscape dotted with pecan orchards, wildflowers, wineries, and B&Bs. The streets are wide, the pace slow, and the pie plentiful. Though Texas is certainly steamy during the summer months, air conditioning abounds, as do cool drinks and relaxation. The central Texas town of Fredericksburg, originally settled by German pioneers, takes its unique blend of German and Texan hospitality very seriously. It’s an easy town to stroll around, with its wide-open Marktplatz, fine shops, and food options ranging from bratwurst to barbecue.

For even more wilderness, Rocky Mountain National Park is an easy one-hour drive away.

It’s certainly not news that visitors flock to Cape Cod for the summer. For a low-key alternative to bustling Provincetown, try the sleepy, artsy town of Wellfleet. The calm waters of the bay are great for wading as well as various watersports such as kayaking; beaches on the ocean side, meanwhile, have bigger waves and windsurfing opportunities. Hike and bike along miles of the national seashore, or visit the nearly 1,000-acre Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, where you can get close to a unique salt marsh, wooded areas, a barrier reef, and fascinating marine life.

Piscataway Township was formed on December 18, 1666, and officially incorporated by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on February 21, 1798, as part of the state’s initial group of 104 townships.[23] The community, the fifth-oldest municipality in New Jersey,[24] has grown from Native American territory, through a colonial period and is one of the links in the earliest settlement of the Atlantic Ocean seacoast that ultimately led to the formation of the United States. Over the years, portions of Piscataway were taken to form Raritan Township (March 17, 1870, now Edison), Dunellen (October 28, 1887), Middlesex (April 9, 1913) and South Plainfield (March 10, 1926).[23]

With a motto like “keep Austin weird” you know this place is cool. The big city with a small town vibe is known for its music scene, and for being home to the South by Southwest (SXSW) conference and as well as the Whole Foods HQ, but where it really shines is in its culinary scene, which ranges from barbecue that people wait hours in line for to all kinds of tacos.

Sacramento was featured heavily in Greta Gerwig’s acclaimed 2017 movie release “Lady Bird,” so this is a great vacation choice for cinema geeks. Tour the film’s key locations, such as Tower Bridge and the neon-lit Gunther’s Ice Cream parlor. You can also soak up the old-world charm of the Old Sacramento district or head to hip Midtown for craft brew sampling and farm-to-table dining.

The park’s Going-to-the-Sun Road, a twisting, turning, mountain-hugging byway that takes visitors deep into the wilds of northern Montana, is navigable by car during the summer months—it seems a woeful understatement to call this a scenic route. Ranger-led programs, including guided hikes, talks, and boat tours, are also popular.

Charleston is that rare destination that, on paper, seems to have it all — and then totally lives up to the hype. History lovers can stroll the historic cobblestoned center, a maze of immaculate 18th- and 19th-century homes, while foodies can schedule their whole day around meals: char-grilled oysters at Leon’s, cocktails at speakeasy the Gin Joint, and a decadent cheeseburger at Husk. At family-owned boutiques like Croghan’s Jewel Box, you can browse for estate silver, one-of-a-kind jewelry, and leather wine totes. Said one T+L reader: “All the elements are there to make it a city that will remain in your heart long after you’ve left.”

CAPE TOWN: Situated at the very bottom of Africa, this city boasts one of the world’s perfect climates, and its far-south locale means spring is on the way. We love the penguins on Boulders Beach and the fact that Cape Town’s beaches include the Atlantic and Indian oceans. While in South Africa, don’t miss one of the continent’s best safari opportunities in Kruger National Park. Stay for under $150/night: Parliament Hotel (parliamenthotel.co.za).
To get to Block Island, you can take a ferry from Newport, Rhode Island or Fall River, Massachusetts. Don’t worry about bringing your car—many people get around just fine on bicycles and mopeds, which can be rented on the island. A more adventurous option is to go by boat and park it at a mooring. Be sure to stop in at The Oar, a casual bayside eatery named for the hundreds of personalized paddles decorating the interior. The restaurant’s mudslides are famous.

The Hawaiian island of Maui is a destination for true nature lovers. The ethereal bamboo forest and churning waterfalls in Haleakala National Park can be explored via the Waimoku Falls Trail. Stretch out on warm, golden sands or hit the surf for an unforgettable windsurfing or snorkeling session. The oldest national park east of the Mississippi, Acadia has a way of feeling secluded and wild even when the parking lots are full (and in summer, they often are). That’s because with 47,000 acres of streams, mountains, and forests, there’s plenty of room to spread out. The park’s diverse landscape includes miles of wooded trails for hiking and biking, as well as dramatic seaside cliffs for rock climbing. If that sounds a little too extreme, the scenic Park Loop Road lets you drive through some of the Atlantic Coast’s best wilderness scenery without having to exert yourself. In fact, many of Acadia’s landmarks, including Cadillac Mountain, are reachable by car.

Seattle fully deserves its place on this list (arguably every year), with its foodie tours, fantastic late-night music scene, and busy schedule of events. There’s the Cherry Blossom and Japanese Cultural Festival in the spring, the Seattle International Film Festival over May and June, and this year the city’s also hosting the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games. Head to the hip Ballard neighborhood for its awesome Sunday farmer’s market or choose a night out in edgier Belltown for drinks and live music. If you’re visiting in June, grab your tickets for the Capitol Hill Block Party music and arts event.
Hicimos este viaje en enero de 2018 y fue una experiencia muy buena, excelente itinerario… incluso el día se hace corto porque hay mucho que ver y disfrutar. El guía era un experto en temas históricos, lo que hizo el viaje mucho mejor aún. Totalmente recomendable!
For wildlife viewing, it’s hard to beat the Kenai Peninsula, a 9,000-square-mile wedge of land in southern Alaska. Amid glaciers, forests, and dramatic snow-capped peaks, the region’s most famous inhabitants, a population of black and brown bears, can be spotted fishing for salmon in the Kenai’s rivers from mid-July to late September. There are a number of viewing stands set up to provide an up-close yet safe look at this annual ritual.

Generations of travelers have headed “down the shore” to spend summers on Long Beach Island, a slender 18-mile sliver of land that’s dotted with tiny beach towns and is no wider than a half mile at any point. Less crowded and less rowdy than other nearby beaches on the Jersey Shore, L.B.I. is a relaxed and family-oriented spot that has little in common with the idea of the area you might have picked up from a certain reality TV show.
Meander through the Knoxville Museum of Art’s outdoor sculpture exhibition, Art in Public Places, or head to Old City, where much of Knoxville’s gritty southern character remains. Live music, from bluegrass to contemporary rock, is easy to find and enjoy here—particularly at the Blue Plate Special, a free noontime show held at WDVX on weekdays.
If you visit in February, you can attend SF Beer Week and explore the city’s craft beer scene. In the summertime, San Francisco hosts Outside Lands, a music, food, and comedy festival that hosts a ton of popular artists including Lorde, Solange, Schoolboy Q, and Tove Lo.
Above all, make sure you get out on that river. Whether you prefer to lounge on the deck of a cruiseboat with a drink in hand or skim around in a kayak, it’s impossible not to feel relaxed on the water.

If Kentucky’s rolling green hills are calling your name, consider heading to Louisville during the summer months, well after Derby mania has subsided. You can still visit Churchill Downs, where there are races through early July. In the summer, Louisville’s bluegrass musicians stay busy. If you’re in town on a Saturday, make sure not to miss local musicians at Bluegrass on the Square. A star-studded bluegrass festival is held each June in nearby Bardstown.
Piscataway is served by a number of roads. County roads include CR 501 (along the border with South Plainfield), CR 514 and CR 529. Route 18 currently ends at Hoes Lane, with plans to extend to Interstate 287. Interstate 287 passes through the center of the township for about 4 miles.
MidCoast Maine is a collection of small towns and islands and is a wonderful place for a family vacation. The region, just off of US-1 (the heavily traveled route between Portland and Acadia National Park), simply has it all: excellent food; abundance of outdoor activities; arts and culture; and jaw-dropping scenery.
For a typically Texas experience, go to Luchenbach, one of the oldest and smallest settlements in Gillespie County. The live music here, not to mention the barbecue-heavy chuckwagon dinner, takes place in a virtually untouched one-horse frontier town.

The nation’s capital is definitely a great place to visit in 2018. Filled with free museums, an abundance of green spaces, and a booming food scene, there is always something to explore — no matter how many times you’ve already visited.

Though we tend to think of Northern Vermont as a winter paradise, the verdant and relatively cool summers of Burlington and its environs shouldn’t be overlooked. In fact, if you’re looking for a region that offers the eclectic and cosmopolitan alongside the woodsy, get yourself to the Green Mountains. In addition to rolling hills, wineries, and pedestrian-only shopping and dining, this area’s ski mountains are year-round destinations that offer hiking, biking, and incredible hotel deals after the snow melts.
In 2018 the sewer bills will have a new look. There will be two mailings, the first one in January; the second one in July. Each bill will have one dated stub attached. The sewer billing of $142.00 will be reflected on the January bill due March 1, 2018. The total billing of $284.00 can be paid in full upon receipt of the bill as has been past practice. The balance due billing of $142.00 will be issued July 1 for all accounts that have an open balance. That bill will be due September 1, 2018. This change will better serve new owners and owners who have mailing address changes during the year. Pay Bill Online.
This Pacific Northwest city charms with its incredible hiking trails, coffee scene, and bookstores. A number of readers raved about the sprawling Powell’s Downtown bookstore, and the city’s homegrown coffee roasters. “Coffee is almost religion in Portland,” explained one local.
Take in Seattle’s skyline from the Space Needle’s 520-foot high observation deck, which will reopen after a renovation that will allow even better views of the city and Mount Rainier in the distance. The 605-foot tall tower was built for the 1962 World’s Fair.
Denali National Park and Preserve is one of the best places to take in the natural beauty of Alaska. The park is not only home to the highest peak in North America, but also tons of other outdoor activities that any type of tourist can enjoy.
Planning a ‘road trip’ this year as part of your vacation, or perhaps just for a long weekend? Consider renting a car to make your trip a bit more fun. Southeastern Utah boasts some of the country’s most picturesque and spectacular sceneries. Its unmatched landscapes are filled with red rocks and canyons, sandstone cliffs and towering rock formations. Don’t miss these attractions for an unforgettable family trip.
Savannah, Georgia’s, historic district is one of the best preserved in the country. You can spend your days walking on cobblestone streets, admiring beautiful historic homes, or even taking a riverboat ride.
A system of public parks runs through the center of town, and the nine riverside parks are known collectively as the ‘Ribbon of Jewels’. These parks are full of walkways, playgrounds, trails, disc golf courses and other outdoor diversions. The Greenbelt is a paved bike path that links all the parks (and much of the rest of the town) along the river. Further, when the weather is good, families can leisurely float the Boise River, and a regular bus will shuttle you back to the put-in point. Camel’s Back Park, while not on the river, is filled with trails, playgrounds, etc. – and it’s located near a handful of great family-friendly restaurants (and Goody’s ice cream shop).

ORLANDO: With new theme park attractions rolling out all the time (we’ve especially enjoyed Universal Studios’ Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Transformers: The Ride 3D, and Disney’s reimagined Fantasyland), families are never at a loss for eye-popping entertainment in Orlando. Not surprisingly, Santa Barbara’s beaches are many and varied. Head to One Thousand Steps Beach at the end of Santa Cruz Boulevard. Don’t worry—there are fewer than a thousand steps, and at the bottom you’ll find a quiet stretch of beach. Butterfly Beach is said to have one of the best sunsets in the area, Goleta Beach is loved by locals, and Arroyo Burro Beach County Park is a white sandy gem where you can try surfing.

The dark blue waters of Lake Powell stand out in beautiful contrast against an otherworldly landscape of red sandstone rocks in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area of southern Utah and northern Arizona. The lake is actually a manmade reservoir created by the Glen Canyon Dam. But there’s no shortage of unique natural wonders nearby, starting with Rainbow Bridge National Monument, a stone arch that at 290 feet tall and 270 feet wide holds the distinction of being the world’s biggest natural bridge.
“It’s a great place, especially for young adults looking for a [destination] that doesn’t get a lot of spotlight. It’s a blossoming arts city, with tons of museums, theaters, and artist-friendly spaces as well,” raved a survey respondent. Locals recommend visiting between early spring and mid-autumn for the best experience.
As of 2017, the mayor of Piscataway is Democrat Brian C. Wahler, whose term of office ends December 31, 2020. Members of the Township Council are Council President Chanelle C. TORONTO: It shouldn’t be a surprise that one of the world’s most culturally diverse cities should be having a major foodie moment.
As of the 2000 Census, 12.49% of Piscataway’s residents identified themselves as being of Indian American ancestry, which was the fourth highest of any municipality in the United States and the third highest in New Jersey—behind Edison (17.75%) and Plainsboro Township (16.97%)—of all places with 1,000 or more residents identifying their ancestry.[50]
The city is also home to the Biltmore Estate, which includes the largest privately-owned home in the US. From breathtaking mountains to gorgeous architecture, Asheville is an under-the-radar city worth exploring.
Classy, laidback, and easy on the eye—that’s Savannah. Time your 2018 trip with the spectacular azalea season in March to see the town bursting with blooms, then stay for the Savannah Music Festival later in the month. Architecture and history tours are available at most times of the year and there’s a lovely beach at Tybee Island within easy reach.
A short drive south of Nashville is Franklin, a more sedate city with a small-town feel and a charming Main Street lined with top-notch dining spots. In Franklin, you can take part in the First Friday free art crawl every month, or join a brewery tour—you can even celebrate the mighty watermelon or the humble sweetcorn: they get their own festivals at Lucky Ladd Farms.
In North Port, twenty bucks will buy you a full day of relaxation at Warm Mineral Springs, a geothermal sinkhole whose waters maintain an 85-degree temperature all year round. This child-friendly city has plenty of parks, and you can sail down the beautiful Myakka River to spot birds. A short drive takes you to the Gulf of Mexico, where you’ll find scenic beaches for shelling and sunbathing.
The country’s first national park remains one of its best—a vast, one-of-a-kind combo of woodsy wilderness and simmering geothermal activity visible in the form of geysers and bubbling mud. It would take weeks to see the whole thing: Yellowstone stretches across parts of three states (most of it is in Wyoming) and enough acreage to fill up both Rhode Island and Delaware. About half of the world’s geysers are here (including, of course, the most famous, Old Faithful) as well as nearly 300 waterfalls, fascinating wildlife, and a majestic canyon that looks like it came from the collective daydreams of every 19th-century landscape painter.

Of course, it would be criminal to spend time in the heart of bourbon country without sampling some of the goods. Jacksonville is one of the better value destinations in America. You can dine cheaply at its casual eateries and there are miles of beaches and waterways to discover on foot, by bike, by boat, or by board. The bars are affordable and there’s some great nightlife and a live music scene to keep you entertained in the evenings. Not to mention affordable, socaious rental options no matter the size of your group.
Piscataway is bordered by nine municipalities: Dunellen, Edison, Highland Park, Middlesex, New Brunswick and South Plainfield in Middlesex County and Franklin Township and South Bound Brook in Somerset County and Plainfield in Union County.[30]
When you’re ready to return to civilization, explore the town of Bangor, a small, eclectic logging town on the banks of the mighty Penobscot. Stroll through downtown’s shopping district or visit the Maine Forest and Logging Musem to learn more about the beautiful country around you. The American Folk Festival, a three-day extravaganza in August, draws thousands to the region for blues, zydeco, bluegrass, gospel, and more.
Just south of Lake Ontario, on the Genesee River, Rochester is a university town with a proud industrial history. T+L readers give Kodak City high marks for its affordable attractions, including its downtown ARTWalk, which connects several of its major arts centers and parks with a sculpture-dotted trail. There’s also Maplewood Park, designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. The leafy green space has a sprawling rose garden (home to 3,000 plantings) and offers views of two waterfalls in the river gorge below.
Yo escogi este tour para aprovechar mejor el tiempo y lo logramos. Llegamos cansados, pero muy satisfechos. Nueva York es impresionante. T+L readers selected Washington, D.C., as America’s favorite city for affordable attractions in this year’s survey — and with good reason. Virtually all of the capital’s most notable attractions, such as the National Mall and its iconic monuments, are open to the public, making D.C. an ideal destination for budget-conscious travelers. And each year, a staggering 30 million culture seekers visit the 17 free-to-enter Smithsonian museums in the District. Many of them put on free events, too. One mainstay for locals is the National Portrait Gallery’s sculpture garden jazz concerts, a summer Friday tradition since 2000. And don’t miss the National Zoo. Also part of the Smithsonian, it’s home to panda celebrities Tian Tian and Mei Xiang.
The Hawaiian island of Oahu is a surfer’s paradise, with swelling waves that can reach epic heights. No wonder, then, that it’s the site of one of the world’s premier competitions, the Triple Crown of Surfing. If hanging ten isn’t your thing, you can still enjoy the beautiful beaches – particularly famous Waikiki Beach in Honolulu. Art connoisseurs will appreciate the annual Hale’iwa Arts Festival, a celebration of local crafts, painting, jewelry, sculpture, dance, and music.
On the quiet north side of the island, near historic Barnegat Lighthouse, visitors can take in salty breezes as they bike, stroll, fish, or laze next to the sea. The southern end attracts more families because of the amusement parks and mini golf courses there. L.B.I. is also popular with surfers, who can stock up on gear at the original Ron Jon Surf Shop.

Seeing the Redwoods at the top of the list is what inspired me to write this article. I admit that we fell in love with the redwood forests during our Seattle to Disneyland road trip many years ago. It was on a recent trip to California where I was able to revisit these majestic trees that clinched their place in my heart as one of my favorite spots in the United States.
By the time St. Louis hosted the World’s Fair in 1904, its population had ballooned to America’s fourth largest city. Today, the Gateway to the West’s cultural heritage remains in the form of premier national cultural institutions — several of which are free to experience. The Saint Louis Museum of Art, for example, is one of the largest fine arts museums in the country, and it has a particularly strong collection of German artworks (thanks to the ancestry of many St. Louis settlers). In summer months, the Municipal Opera company stages musicals at the country’s largest and oldest outdoor theater, where the last nine rows are available on a first come, first served basis: no tickets required. And at St. Louis Zoo, which ranks alongside San Diego’s famed animal haven, visitors can see thousands of animals representing every continent, without the $60 tickets of its California peer.
It’s true that the San Juans are busiest during the summer months, but that means you can enjoy various farmers’ markets and arguably the best Fourth of July fireworks anywhere. Also, the San Juans are a cyclist’s paradise. Those looking for a leisurely day of riding can tool around the mostly flat, rural Lopez Island. More serious cyclists can summit Orcas Island’s Mount Constitution.

Luckily for visitors, the Big Easy can be easy on the wallet, too. Live music fills the streets of the historic French Quarter, where the party rages during the city’s many free festivals, including legendary Mardis Gras. And the city’s famously delicious food is often astoundingly affordable: the massive po-boy sandwiches at local favorite Adams Street Grocery, near Tulane, all cost under $10, and an order of fluffy beignets at New Orleans Coffee & Beignet (away from the lines at Cafe du Monde), is a sweet steal at $3.

Many first-time visitors make the mistake of leaving once they’ve set eyes on Old Faithful and the canyon. But it’s a shame to miss out on day hikes along trails to sites such as the Lonestar Geyser or Mount Washburn. And that’s just the beginning of what you can do here.

Readers had strong feelings about New York City — many of them describing what an overwhelming, but rewarding, place the Big Apple is to call home. “I’ve moved out and returned,” explained one born-and-raised reader. “Traveling has made me so much more appreciate of this city…you can do and get anything, anytime you want, and you cannot truly appreciate that until you leave.”

T+L readers with little ones in tow think Indiana’s state capital is an ideal destination for families. Its Children’s Museum — the world’s largest — rewards advanced ticket buyers with steep discounts (think: $5 per ticket) to see its five floors of exhibitions, including a steam locomotive, dinosaur habitat, and a carousel. The recently-completed Indianapolis Cultural Trail, meanwhile, is Indy’s prized new park. The eight-mile ring of bike and walking paths connect the revitalized downtown to surrounding neighborhoods. With the local bikeshare day passes costing just $8, it’s an affordable way for the whole family to explore the city.

I think the California Redwood Coast is a perfect spot for a family vacation, whether it be the whole vacation or just a part of a bigger journey. The trees will amaze little kids, have them try to wrap their arms around one to get the full impact of just how big these giants really are. There are plenty of family-friendly hikes dotting the redwood parks. Each hike will let you discover just how quiet a forest can actually be.

Charleston quickly comes to mind when the discussion turns to cities that epitomize not only Lowcountry charm but the contemporary South. Walk the Freedom Trail the first time you visit Boston and you’ll quickly get a sense of this coastal city’s revolutionary spirit and history. But make sure you also explore some of Boston’s fine museums (try the Isabella Stewart Gardner, featuring masterpieces displayed in their collector’s mansion) and old neighborhoods (like the North End, Boston’s Little Italy). You can’t claim to have experienced real Boston culture, though, until you’ve watched a Red Sox game from the bleachers.

The Windy City comes in as number 15 on this year’s list of America’s favorite cities for affordable attractions, thanks largely to its collection of activity-filled public parks. In West Chicago, the massive Garfield Park Conservatory (the third largest plant conservatory in the world) displays thousands of species in jungle-like settings under its glass roofs. Near the lakefront, the Lincoln Park Zoo is one of the last major zoos to offer free admission. More than 1,000 animals representing over 200 species — many of them rare and endangered — call its spacious, landscaped enclosures home. And in the downtown Loop, Maggie Daley Park Play Garden is a must for families traveling with children. Close to the iconic Bean of Millennium Park, the 20-acre whimsical playground has a lighthouse, ship, gardens, and picnic areas.
