Much like the other sprawling resorts that line the beach in the swanky Marina Vallarta golf community, the CasaMagna Marriott features top-notch restaurants, pools, and meeting rooms, as well as lovely guest rooms and suites that feature modern amenities and contemporary furnishings. Housed in two towers, this upscale hotel is memorable primarily for its sumptuous Ohtli Spa and adjacent fitness center with indoor lap pool. Somewhat removed from Puerto Vallarta’s nightlife scene, it is a great spot for travelers who want to unwind away from the hustle and bustle of downtown. Kids will enjoy the seasonal turtle release programs, as well as the sleek kids’ club.
Where should families stay in NYC? If you’re close to a subway station you’ll generally be fine. My favorite locations are Midtown (a large area packed with iconic sights, skyscrapers, and people – try to be within a few blocks east or west of Broadway), SoHo (slightly slower pace than Midtown but still plenty of shops, restaurants, bars, and cafes), Greenwich Village and nearby Chelsea (hip with a neighborhood feel and great restaurants).

New Hampshire’s White Mountains are considered the crown jewel of the state, home to the highest peak in the Northeast, and filled with pristine lakes and dense forest. By staying at the American Mountain Club’s rustic Highland Center lodge, you’ll have access to all types of activities, from guided scenic hikes to spots like the gorgeous Presidential peaks while learning about the area’s geology, nature and picking up some outdoor skills. You can also enjoy splashing around in the pools underneath Arethusa or Ripley Falls, and even rock climbing on the nearby Frankenstein Cliffs. The lodge itself serves hearty home-cooked meals to fuel those adventures, with all meals included in room rates.
This luxury lodge is on the slopes of the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, steps from the entrance of Grand Teton National Park, and a 90-minute drive from Yellowstone National Park. Skiers and snowboarders will delight in the fresh powder; in the warm months, there’s hiking, horseback riding, climbing, mountain biking, kayaking, and animal spotting ( buffalo, moose, and elk). A National Parks Explorer Package includes three nights in a Lodge Room (with granite countertops and a mini fridge to store snacks), a seven-day pass to Grand Teton and Yellowstone parks, field guides written by the resort’s in-house naturalist, and a $100 resort credit that can be used for a post-hike massage at the resort’s new 16,000-square-foot spa.
Walt Disney World began operation on October 1, 1971, with the Magic Kingdom park at a cost of $400 million. The Magic Kingdom had six themed lands: Main Street, Adventureland, Fantasyland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, and Tomorrowland.[CDW 7] Additionally, Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort campground and two hotels, Disney’s Contemporary Resort and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, also opened.[CDW 8]
Family friendly TV channels are available for in room entertainment and there is now no need to wake a sleeping child for a 12pm checkout: Early check-in and Late Check out can also be arranged (subject to availability).
Disney had plans to build a Disneyland in Sydney, Australia, between 2007 and 2008 with the proposed name “Disney Wharf at Sydney Harbour”, but the concept was abandoned due to mixed responses in the New South Wales Government.[80]

Plans for a Hollywood-style theme park were announced in April 1985 for the Walt Disney World resort at a project cost of US$300 million.[CDW1 5] In April 1985, Disney signed a licensing agreement with MGM, giving Disney the right to use the MGM name, logo and movie library for this third park.[25] Construction of the Disney-MGM Studios theme park began in 1986.[CDW1 6] Disney-MGM Studios opened on May 1, 1989,[CDW1 7] along with a Pleasure Island entertainment area;[CDW1 8] its second water park, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon, opened on June 1.[CDW1 9] In 1983, Walt Disney World Village’s name was changed to the Disney Village Marketplace.[CDW1 10] A new themed area, Mickey’s Birthdayland, opened in the Magic Kingdom near Fantasyland on June 18, 1988.[CDW1 11]
On February 10, 2017, Disney revealed a deal to purchase Kingdom Holding Co.’s shares of Euro Disney S.C.A. as first step in purchasing the remaining shares held by others. Disney has offered about $2.12 a share, a 67% premium over the Euronext Paris Stock Exchange value as of February 9. The company expects the buyout and delisting to be finished by June. Plans are for the company to invest another $1.4 billion into Disneyland Paris after the buyout to counteract the recent Paris terrorist attack, which hurt a previous 2014 park hotel investment. If this buyout is successful, it would make the resort the only resort 100% owned and operated by Disney outside of the United States of America.[72] On June 13, 2017, The Walt Disney Company reached the 95% threshold required for a mandatory takeover according to French law, owning 97.08% of Euro Disney S.C.A., paving the way for The Walt Disney Company to become the sole owner and operator of Disneyland Paris.[73]
More than forty years after being founded, the resort now features 10 lifts, 169 runs and an uphill capacity of 17,400 people. Beginners ages 3 and up can learn skiing and snowboarding at the Snowbird Mountain School. Love the outdoors but not a fan of the slopes? The resort also offers ice skating, snow tubing, snowshoe tours and luge sleds. Parents can unwind with a stone massage or herbal wrap at the luxurious Cliff Spa.
TKTS is great for getting discounted tickets but it’s not so good at going to see a particular play. And that makes it hard to do with kids. Adults who just want to see a show (any show) can walk up and get good deals on a variety of shows (though usually not the most popular ones). But for families, already restricted by the limited number of kid-friendly shows, it’s harder to make it work. If seeing a show is important to you I would book directly with the theater for a specific kid-friendly performance.
Designed to focus on the magic of Hollywood, Disney’s Hollywood Studios gives visitors the opportunity to travel back in time to Hollywood’s heyday of the 1930s and ’40s. The park is home to attractions such as the Great Movie Ride, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and the Toy Story Mania ride and the American Idol Experience. Visitors can enjoy performances such as the “Lights, Motor, Action!” stunt show or the “Voyage of the Little Mermaid” stage show. Learn about the history of Disney animation, and get a chance to draw your own Disney character at the park’s Animation Courtyard, or let your children experience life from a bug’s point of view in the “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” Movie Set Adventure playground.
Here’s another that’ s perfect for a trip with the kids, Ripley’s entertains visitors with weird and quirky interactive displays and oddities. With an interesting combination of science and strange, you will be amazed at all the unique items you encounter.

Created by prehistoric Indians around 800 A.D., the mound is part of a fascinating museum complex showcasing more than 4,000 stone, bone, shell and clay pieces created as many as 10,000 years ago. In a word: Wow. fwb.org/museums

Working strictly in secrecy, real estate agents unaware of their client’s identity began making offers to landowners in April 1964 in parts of southwest Orange and northwest Osceola counties. The agents were careful not to reveal the extent of their intentions, and they were able to negotiate numerous land contracts with some including large tracts of land for as little as $100 an acre.[7] With the understanding that the recording of the first deeds would trigger intense public scrutiny, Disney delayed the filing of paperwork until a large portion of the land was under contract.[8]

It’s hard to believe you are only an hour from London at this, Four Seasons’ only UK country hotel. Set amid 500 acres of luscious green fields, guests can watch the hotel’s horses frolick in paddocks from the sophisticated bedrooms of the 18th-century renovated manor with spoiling spa, while children can be happily entertained in the pool, at the kids’ club, cycling, playing croquet or tennis or even ‘owning a pony’ for a day or boating on the Basingstoke Canal. This genteel property opened in 1887 as a summer retreat for vacationers, who arrived at the pedestrian-only island by lake steamer and by rail. Since then, generations of families have enjoyed lawn games, after-dinner dancing, and promenades along the hotel’s 660-foot-long front porch. Kids today—who stay at the hotel free or at a significantly discounted rate—can also engage in more modern activities, like Quidditch matches, butterfly house visits, duck pin bowling, movie nights, and arts and crafts. Swimming in the hotel’s serpentine-shaped pool offers hours of fun for a budding Esther Williams—it is named after the pool-and-screen star, whose 1947 movie This Time For Keeps was filmed on the island.
The Dominican Republic is an ideal beach getaway, with resorts and all-inclusive properties starting as cheap as $100 a night. Punta Cana is a popular destination for beach and golf lovers, and its airport is also the best connected in the Caribbean, with flights to and from 26 countries.
Originally, entry into the theme park and travel business was a side project of Walt Disney himself. As the Disneylandia project started to become a reality, Walt Disney Productions at Walt’s request set up Disneyland, Inc. (DLI) in 1951 and agreed to a design deal in March 1953 with WED Enterprises (WED), Walt’s personal corporation, which then included what would now be called Disney Imagineering.[8][CDL 1] With the WED concept designs and prospectus for Disneylandia, Roy Disney in September 1953 met with TV networks in a deal for Disney-produced TV show and Disneyland investment. American Broadcasting-Paramount Theatres (AB-PT) agreed to the Disneyland, Inc. investment.[8] Joining AB-PT as Disneyland investors were Walt Disney Productions (WDP), Western Publishing and Walt Disney.[CDL 2] Walt Disney Productions had the option to repurchase the Walt Disney, WED and Western Publishing shares (31%) by May 1, 1959, for $562,500.[9]
Located at the tip of the Baja Peninsula, the two small colonial towns of Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo have become the hottest vacation destinations in Mexico in recent years. With wide, pristine beaches, lively nightclubs, glam resorts, and a farm-to-table food scene, the oasis of Los Cabos is drawing tourists in record numbers. As a result, the hotel scene is booming, with a clutch of new developments and renovations completed this year along the Tourist Corridor, including the sleek Chileno Bay, an Auberge Resort, and a stunning beachfront Solaz resort.
Soar through towering trees on a zip line, raft down a whitewater river, hike a section of the Appalachian Trail, and go camping on a Great Smoky Mountains Family Adventure. This park has an incredible variety of plant and animal life, so look for old-growth trees, salamanders, black bears (do not feed or approach them!), wild turkeys, and, for a short period each spring, fireflies that blink in unison. Take selfies at Cades Cove, a popular stop for visitors, where you’ll see historic homes and churches. Go in the spring to enjoy the butterflies and wildflowers, or in the fall, when the trees turn brilliant orange, gold and scarlet.
Tiffany pieces take center stage here but the museum includes a nice assortment of late nineteenth-century portraits like John Singer Sargent’s Richard Aldrich C. McCurdy, furnishings by Gallé and art objects by European artists such as Carl Fabergé.
The Chicago DisneyQuest location was closed in September 2001.[50] Disney Parks started the Adventures by Disney tour vacation business in 2005.[51] Disney entered a float, “The Most Magical Celebration on Earth”, into the 2006 Pasadena Tournament of Roses parade.[CDC 19]
Family Vacation Ideas with Teenagers: Traveling with teens is a lot of fun when they are interested in attractions around them and getting involved in the activities. The opposite is quite true as well – plan the wrong kind of a vacation and they will be impossible to be around. If you have a sedentary child, vacation may not be the best time to take her river rafting. She may prefer exploring a museum, shopping and people watching at a café. If you have an adventurous young man who loves the outdoors, don’t take him to Europe in August, but instead plan a fun family vacation in the Rocky Mountains, hiking, mountain biking and swimming in mountain lakes.
The capital may be set on banks of the Potomac, but it’s never had a reputation as a great waterfront city. That could all be about to change, thanks to the $2.5 billion, 24-acre District Wharf, which opened in October just south of the National Mall. The shiny new InterContinental Washington D.C.-The Wharf offers access to the development’s new parks, music venues, 50-plus shops, and 20 restaurants — which include projects from area chefs like Fabio Trabocchi, Mike Isabella, and wunderkind Kwame Onwuachi. This is also set to be a banner year for culture: the Freer and Sackler galleries, sister museums that champion Asian art, recently reopened after a 20-month renovation, the National Gallery of Art will host the first-ever show dedicated to Cézanne’s portraits from March to July, and the Kennedy Center continues its inaugural season of hip-hop programming curated by Q-Tip. —Brooke Porter Katz

A traditional country house hotel with a set of contemporary treehouse suites in its grounds. The treehouses are the pick of the bunch, where children can run and squeal without censure. The kids’ club is impressive, children are taken outside for wholesome activities like nature scavenger hunts, as well as playing with the treasure trove of toys (and technology) inside. The kids’ menu in the restaurant is equally high-end. The pool, however, is only open to children between 9 and 10am and then 4 and 5.30pm. Read expert review

It’s one of the world’s great wine capitals, and like any great vintage, Mendoza is only getting better with age. Start your tasting tour in the Uco Valley, where Casa de Uco’s vineyard-view eco-villas will debut this year. Head down the road to to Vines of Mendoza’s Winemakers’ Village for small-production wines from the likes of Corazón del Sol and SuperUco, and to dine at winery Bodega Monteviejo, where renowned Spanish chef Nadia Harón cooks up Mediterranean-tinged fare inspired by the wines. In Maipú, wineries like Club Tapiz and Trapiche are giving visitors a true taste of the local terroir, using produce grown on the vineyard grounds in their restaurants. Back in town, plot your return trip over a pie at Francis Mallman’s year-old pizzeria, Orégano. With new direct flights from Lima, Panama City, Rio de Janeiro, and São Paulo, and low-cost carrier Norwegian Air plotting dozens of new routes, tacking a Mendoza stop on to your next South American itinerary will be a breeze. —Sorrel Moseley-Williams

A well-located seaside hotel with a loyal following of returning guests of all ages. Although a no-surprises, traditional place, it benefits from friendly, long-serving staff and a refurbishment that has freshened up public areas and rooms. A big plus-point here is the indoor swimming pool, a boon for families looking for entertainment on rainy days. Very few Norfolk hotels offer this useful fallback. Children can share parents’ rooms for free. There’s a games room, and a children’s menu or half portions from the table d’hôte menu are available. Read expert review
Overnight Trips with Kids: Most kids love to travel. Teach them to pack their own bag and allow them to participate in choosing the next destination by asking about their favorite things to see and do. While some romantic inns require guests to be over a certain age, most hotels and resorts not only welcome kids but also pamper them with special gifts and amenities. If you want to bring your family dog or pet with you, it’s a good idea to research any additional fees and restrictions ahead of time, especially if you have to fly to get to your vacation destination.
