For those that can afford it, luxury cruises are a great vacation option because they bundle so many different charges into one generally all-inclusive price. They can also be the only option if you’re looking for adventurous and exotic ports in increasingly popular destinations like the Galapagos and Antarctica.
“I would recommend booking when you have decided upon the cruise vacation you want to take,” says Barker. “Don’t wait or you risk the chance of it selling out or receiving a higher price. The cruise lines are very respectable when it comes to honoring lowering pricing should it happen to the cruise you are booked on, so there is no need to wait. Suites should be booked as early as possible as those are usually the highest in demand and the first to go. Family vacations where specific/adjoining/special cabins are needed should be booked as far in advance as possible.”
A slightly upscale division of Carnival, the Princess Cruises leaves from Ft. Launderdale on this run and explores Mexico and Central America rather than the more common islands to their east. The Regal Princess can carry 3,560 passengers and is one of the newest cruise ships added to this line. With this said, it is very comparable to the Regal Princess.
NCL is the only cruise line that operates in Hawaiian waters year-round. The stylish Pride of America offer weekly itineraries visiting ports on the major Hawaiian Islands: Oahu (Honolulu port), Maui (Kahului or Lahaina), Kauai (Lihue) and the Big Island (Hilo and Kailua-Kona).
With teams using more than 100 unique apparatuses to launch globular projectiles a half-mile or more, the 27th annual World Championship Punkin Chunkin event is our pick as November’s Weird Festival of the Month.
Royal Caribbean International offers some great deals as well, especially on its three- and four-night Bahamas cruises, which dip as low as $199 per person. Norwegian Cruise Line has been bundling free drinks and dining packages with $599 per person fares on seven-night Caribbean itineraries — and that’s on its newest ships. Last, but not least, Carnival Cruise Line offers some super low rates on short Bahamas and Caribbean cruises, on its older ships especially.
In fact, a taxi fare from Sydney airport to the dock is anything from $60 to $80, but for two people on the cruise line transfer, it is $44. I find too, while on the bus, you are higher up, so you get a bus tour experience as you go through the city. You can also relax and talk to other cruise passengers, or sometimes the driver gives you interesting commentary.
Couples who prefer not to encounter a lot of children on their Caribbean cruise should sail during the school year, Cruise Critic advises. Cruises to the Caribbean usually last at least five to seven days. There are more adult passengers during this period because some parents don’t want to take their youngsters out of school for that long. Most of the kids on board will be age five or below, and the overall passenger count will be lower. This means shorter waits for tendering into ports such as Grand Cayman and less crowded dining rooms and other on–board areas, Cruise Critic states.
IMPORTANT: MSC Cruises guests are expected to be responsible for their actions at all times. MSC alcohol policy promote responsible alcohol use. Guest who choose to consume alcohol must do so responsibly.
The shortest cruise the upscale Oceania line does in the Caribbean is this 10-night itinerary that spends a couple days at sea each way going back and forth to the luxury islands in the eastern Caribbean. With a maximum of 1,250 passengers, this sailing is on the newly refurbished MS Riviera, which combines a great number of dining options and activities with the more exclusive service found on smaller ships. For 10 nights, it’s cheaper per night than the smaller ship listed above.

All inclusive cruises are a great idea for travelers who want to keep a tab on how much they are spending, and for those who simply don’t want to pull out their credit card every five minutes. Most cruises are not all inclusive. While they may include entertainment onboard the ship and some food and drink, most cruises will require payment for all other services. It can be confusing to search for all inclusive cruise deals, as the term can be misleading. Although many more services and activities will be covered in the overall price, whatever package you choose there will almost always be some type of special service that will be outside of what is covered by your deal, and this can be frustrating.
As you plan your next cruise, you’ll want to take into consideration the best and cheapest times to cruise and see what jibes with your vacation schedule. Here’s a when-to-cruise guide for some popular destinations.
Perhaps you’re like me and start filling your suitcase a week (or more) before your cruise, armed with a packing list and smart space-saving techniques, like rolling up socks and stuffing them in your shoes. Or maybe you’re like my husband, who throws a bunch of clothes into a carry-on at midnight
“Evaluating good deals versus good value can be tricky for most consumers due to the huge shift in the way cruise lines market their product by adding value-add packages to their sailings,” Koepf continues. “These are usually not readily distinguishable or easy to determine by shopping online, however working with a travel agent can help discern which cruise line is a great fit and also provide the best value overall for the customer.”
Things we did different is we danced quite a bit in different place in town( we are ballroom dancer ) And we Geocached. A great way to get around town and search for treasures. Most of the time the caches are located in a place with a great view or something interesting to learn about.
That’s not always a given. MSC Seaside, which debuted at the very end of 2017, began rolling out discounted offerings just one month after its launch in Miami. At the time of publication, you could sail this brand-spanking-new ship for $449 per person, plus reduced deposits, onboard credit offerings and kids under age 11 sail free. Sometimes with new ships there’s a lot of buzz, but sales don’t match the hype. Give the ship a few months to settle and see which direction the dollar signs are heading.
Royal Carribean will allow 2 bottles of wine per adult. That’s not bad. We have been on several cruises, have tons of fun, and don’t break the bank. We have also never paid for an excursion. Bring your own snorkel, take your own self guided tour, etc. It can be done reasonably inexpensive. Sometimes we will buy the $30 bucket of beer for 5 beers (when we’ve run out on the ones we sneak on board.)
In addition, travel agencies block promotional group space on select itineraries, which, according to Coiro, “provides consumers with special pricing benefits and increased value add. However, this promotional group inventory is offered on a limited basis and typically must be returned to the cruise line a few months before the sailing date. So, bottom line: to receive the best savings, book at least six months in advance.”
What You Get: A newcomer to all-inclusive cruising, Viking Ocean Cruises entered the market in 2015 and has been rapidly adding ships in the years to follow. Fares include wine, beer and soft drinks at lunch and dinner; Wi-Fi; a shore excursion in every port; meals in all restaurants; access to the spa’s thermal suite; fitness classes and 24-hour room service.
So should you use aggregator sites? Absolutely. They are the first place you should look for a cruise. Smart cruise shoppers use them to look at all their options and see what sort of incentives they have for booking through their site.
Other cruise lines are more popular for couples or older passengers or those who prefer a more formal or traditional style of cruising. If you read through the descriptions of each line below, you can probably narrow down your choices quickly, and hopefully the price range will match as well.
Many consumers feel more comfortable working with a travel agent face to face. Try both local independent agents and large national agencies like AAA and American Express. If the cruise line you’re researching has an agent-finder function on its Web site, use it to find agents near you. The CLIA Web site, for example, has a “Cruise Expert Locator.”
Advantages: Costco is well-known for its low prices, great deals, and customer service. Buying a cruise through the store might not enter many people’s minds, but it can save you big. Like other cruise-buying websites, Costco offers rates that are the same as what you’ll find anywhere else.
There is a diverse program of activities on board, including spectacular Broadway-style shows in the theater, live music in the bars and lounges, a casino, sports activities and tournaments. Rich resort facilities are also offered including whirlpool tubs, multiple pools and Aqua Parks.
Nancy Bogert, an award-winning travel agent with Cruise Planners, has seen interest double this January, as compared with last wave season. “It’s hard to stay on top of all the promotions, but people want perks,” says Bogert.

If you are worried about finding the best price for your cruise, there’s some good news and bad news. The good news is that prices for cruises are usually the exact same across every single website you search.
The main difference between the two is that cruise line sales reps know only what they’ve been taught about their own brands; most have not sailed on the cruise ships they’re booking, and none will answer questions about other cruise lines if you’re looking for help deciding between lines, for instance. Travel agents — cruise specialists, in particular — have been onboard many cruise ships and can offer first-hand advice, like which cabins to avoid because they’re under the main theater or across from a crew-only access door. A good travel agent will also get to know your travel style and guide you to the cruise line, ship and even room type that are best for you.
Europe is so big that you can’t lump all its cruises together. The Mediterranean cruise season runs from April through November. Northern Europe and Baltic cruises have a shorter season running from May to October, while the warmer Greek islands and Canary Islands see cruise ships between March and December.
You have to go through the travel agency for any sort of booking changes. We finalized payment and we wanted to see about changing our meal time. We can’t use the Royal Caribbean site. We have to call the travel agency. We can still view everything and do the online check in on RC’s website though. We use RC for any excursions we want to book.
According to the terms, the amount of cash back would be $100 per cabin. The amount increases with a higher fare and decreases with lower fares. Keep in mind this incentive is a special ongoing at the time we searched and subject to change.
Thank you for your interest in Royal Seas Cruises on Ticketmaster. You will soon be receiving a call to book your free Bahamas cruise. Can’t wait? This seemingly simple sales pitch began a yearlong journey of phone calls, complete with lightning-fast decisions, scheduling and hand-wringing, as I attempted to determine whether the free cruise offer was a scam, legit or something in between.
Dining on a cruise ship is not all buffet lines and 3 a.m. room service (although it’s that, too). We offer our insider tips and tricks of the cruise trade to keep you well fed, in the know and up to your ears in ice cream at sea. Read on for 15 cruise dining hacks that will change the way you
Cruising from Florida can be done on the cheap more easily than from anywhere else in the world. This is a state with multiple embarkation ports along the coastline, all of which offer easy access to the Bahamas, the Caribbean, and Mexico on itineraries that range from two days all the way up to two weeks. Here, where the cheap cruises are plentiful, you just need to be in the know. Read on for our tips for finding cheap cruises from Florida.
Excellent article! We just returned a few days ago from a seven-day cruise with Carnival. We had no alcohol, but did buy one coffee at the coffe bar (husband) and one virgin piña colada (me—we don’t drink alcohol). That was on our twentieth anniversary, so we splurged. We also bought one formal night portrait. As for food, the standard ship dining room was so wonderful that I can’t imagine paying for the premium steakhouse! The free food already felt like a special occasion; I would rather save the $30 per person to eat out during some dull month when we need a treat!
I’m a solo traveler and most of of the time I stay in a dorm bed in hostels. Are these fares per person or per cabin? Are there websites where people can get together to share a double room on a ship? I’ve never thought much about taking a cruise, but it seems like it might not be as bad as I thought!
What I don’t want is to book a cheap cruise then end up spending a fortune on the basics. If this is the case, it will be cheaper to fly. Obviously there’s added value in the cruise, but for me, it will essentially be an affordable way of traveling to Europe from North America.
Yes, there are differences between booking directly with the cruise line versus using a travel agent. Most specifically, travel agents are known for giving more personalized service than cruise lines, though some cruise sales representatives can be attentive and helpful.
If you’re a family of four, or four friends who don’t mind sharing a cabin to snag a bargain, look for cabins that can accommodate four people. Bunk up this way, and you’ll lower everyone’s fare by as much as 20 percent.
It looks like only Carnival will fit your needs for your dates and length. Unfortunately, Carnival doesn’t allow travel agents to discount prices so what you see on the Carnival site is probably the best there is. However, you may be able to get a bit of on board credit through a travel agent.
The other tips about bringing your own supplies, washing your own clothes are good tips though and I enjoyed the first part of the article about waiting to book tours/cruises late, I never would have thought of that – for some reason I always assumed the later you book the more expensive it would be but it makes sense that they would want a full cruise
Planning your first cruise can feel like an overwhelming undertaking. There are indeed so many choices, from “party boats” in the Caribbean and luxury yachts in the Mediterranean to river cruises in Asia and expedition ships in Antarctica. You need to put some careful thought into

Seahub is one of the newest booking engines and perhaps the nicest to use. The site offers a lot of options to find the perfect cruise and because it’s focused solely on cruises (unlike other travel sites), it’s much more user friendly.
Save up, and purchase the best cabin you can afford for your first cruise. Plus, find a travel agent you trust and is willing to work with you. If you are young and looking for night life, you will find Holland America a snooze fest. Likewise, if you are looking for a “sit down and read all cruise” atmosphere, Norwegian will be a little too much.

Tip 7: Bring extra booze — If you do want to drink hard liquor while on board, get Rum Runners. These handy little bags allow you to pour alcohol into them and — because there are no air bubbles — escape the X-ray machine. You need to be sneaky, but if you’re smart, you can smuggle your own alcohol on board and avoid paying for high-priced drinks.
Talk with a cruise line representative about the particular cruises and stateroom categories that interest you. Ask for any specials and be sure to mention your age and state of residence, as well as whether you are traveling in a group or have sailed with the cruise line before; all of these circumstances could qualify you for additional discounts. Use the quote given by the cruise line as your starting price point.
While booking through Costco is booking through a third-party, the store has a strong reputation for customer service should anything go wrong. In fact, the only real disadvantage we see is that you need to be a member of Costco to book. An annual membership costs $60. In addition, the Costco Cash Cards are only valid at the store. It’s not the same as actual cash.
This classic beach town is located just minutes from Port Canaveral, and is a great place to relax at before and/or after a cruise from Port Canaveral. Among the many things to do at Cocoa Beach are taking part in water sports (such as deep sea fishing and parasailing), dining, golfing, shopping, enjoying the great nightlife, or simply relaxing under the sun at the beach.
There are more than 7000 islands in the Caribbean Sea, and cruise ships visit many of them. Caribbean cruises run throughout the year. You must select your cruise date carefully because there are certain advantages to sailing during various time periods. Your ideal date depends on several things, such as how much you want to spend, the type of weather you prefer and whether you will be bringing children along.
I was never interested in cruises until I found a $99 ALL IN repositioning cruise to Panama. Three days of basically transporting yourself on a floating spa. And cheaper than any flight. I found it on VacationsToGo – great site!
Considering the Disney is obviously aimed at the family market, it might be a bit surprising to see their cheapest Caribbean cruise at about triple the price of some competitors. But then again, nothing about Disney is cheap, and their ships are known for being first-class with plenty of room for families to move around and spread out a bit. This sailing is on the Disney Wonder, which can carry 2,400 passengers and is loaded with branded entertainment options for kids. Not unlike its theme parks, the Disney Cruise Line ships aren’t cheap, but they deliver a very high quality product to the intended audience.
The concept of “deals” in the luxury realm was nearly unheard of a few years ago, but as cruise lines in all sectors grow, luxury lines are finding new ways to compete for passengers. Discounts and even value-adds on top of the typical inclusions have been cropping up for more upscale lines — don’t leave them out of your wave season deals hunt. And bundled experiences — with most trip components packaged together in one up-front fare — can be time and money savers for travelers with a larger vacation budget.
What’s in store for 2018 for cruisers seeking low prices and great value? We asked a panel of eight cruise and travel professional for their tips and insight into finding the absolute best cruise bargains this year — and when to book them. Find out the destinations that will stay cheap and the ships that won’t, as well as the surprising perks of using a travel agent to book your cruise.
I firmly say that if you have to budget THIS tightly, you cannot afford to go. My wife and I routinely pay over $200 per person per day for cruise fare. And the statement that smaller ships are less expensive is a totally false generalization. Seabourn ships hold a maximum of 400 people, and are priced at roughly $1000 per person per day.

If you’re planning a cruise to Alaska or Europe, don’t wait to book. “Both Alaska and Europe are off to a very strong start for 2018,” says Coiro. “Consumers should not wait for a last-minute deal in these markets as demand is extremely high right now and prices will continue to increase as inventory becomes depleted. Especially considering that flights are necessary for both Alaska and European trips, the best time to book is now.”

Purchasing a cruise was once as simple as going to your local travel agent and leafing through a couple of brochures. But with the growth of the industry has come an almost overwhelming array of itineraries, packages, purchasing options and prices. How do you navigate through all the information to find the best deals? The tips that follow will help you clinch the best possible cruise for your money.
In addition, the site offered several different bonus incentives, including upgrades, no deposit required, or $50 in onboard credit. While all of these incentives sound great, not all of them are available to be used together. For instance, if you select the $50 in onboard credit, then you can’t also book with no deposit. Other incentives required you to call in and talk to an agent to receive them.

Carnival Cruise Lines features 3- to 5-night Bahamas cruises from Port Canaveral aboard Carnival Ecstasy and Carnival Sensation, as well as 5-night Eastern Caribbean cruises on Carnival Sensation. One of Carnival’s youngest ships, Carnival Dream, does 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises from Port Canaveral.
As for Alaska, more ships are heading there than ever before, but with a five-month season (May through September) the most in-demand ships and cabins will not only fill quickly but also begin booking up for next year.
With a long history and a reputation as a most traditional cruise line, Holland America Line is now another somewhat upscale part of the Carnival family. These cruises are on 5 different ships, which carry between 1,200 and 2,000 passengers and have also been modernized in the past few years to include some Asian dining and culture options.
Disadvantages: First, sometimes Costco has higher fares than what’s found on other sites. If booking a high-grade cabin (which usually has a higher incentive) then the incentive usually covers the price difference. You may not come out ahead if paying more for an interior room.
Nevertheless, going on a cruise has the POTENTIAL of being extremely expensive or extremely cheap, it all depends on the activities that one partakes and the supplies he/she can bring on board. The Rum Runners are probably the best invention I’ve ever known of 😮
If your kids aren’t happy, your cruise will not be nearly as fun. Our favorite ships for kids will make your vacation a dream, with tricked-out kids clubs, top-deck water play, family-friendly cabins and plenty of activities for the entire family.
Because of this growth in interest, there’s a significant advantage to booking and planning early in this sector — more than a year to 14 months out, according to Kaplan. “The best value is in booking early, with a limited supply of beds, but there are always last-minute opportunities (90 days out or less). Most specialists have access to these, but there is little difference with the early-booking promotions. Currently, there are 40 percent fewer available beds than this time last year.”

Matt, we used almost all your advise in this article and saved a ton of money. Only a few differences were, we bought good boxed wine and took it out of the box and folded them it our cloths, then when we would stop at ports we bought more wine and put it in our travel water container then walked right on the ship with no questions. We also booked 3 months in advance and when the prices drop, I called the RC and they dropped my price too. I ended up paying $600 pp for 16 day from New Orleans to Barcelona. Our tab at the end was less then $100, and that was for sushi mostly.
To help you out, we detailed the pros and cons of the best websites to book your cruise below. Before we get too far, however, there’s something you should know about price shopping for cruises online.
Disadvantages: The main drawback of using a cruise line website? It’s like going to a buffet and restricting yourself to only the salad bar. Cruise line websites are only going to have cruises from that line, so you are limiting your options of prices, ships, dates, and itineraries.

Hi there, we’re about to take our second trans Atlantic cruise this year, the price was, indeed, under $30/day each. That’s not including the compulsory tips which they add on later at $12/person/day ( bit of a bummer that one!). But yeah, we loved our first cruise, it’s wonderful to have the time to take a cruise as a form of transport, it sure beats flying, and it’s cheaper, or thereabouts. The best price we found was on the cruise line’s own website.
Being that we were searching for a Carnival cruise, it made sense to begin our search with Carnival.com. Searching the site, we found our cruise listed for $1,194 per person. On Carnival’s site, the cruise was labeled as “Extra Value” which offered $50 in onboard credit, half off the deposit, and choice of room location.

And the statement that smaller ships are less expensive is a totally false generalization. Seabourn ships hold a maximum of 400 people, and are priced at roughly $1000 per person per day.
It amazes me that people actually pay for internet and phone access on cruises. I know I like to just disconnect for several days. If there’s an emergency, use the ship’s phone to handle it. But, at least for me, Facebook and Twitter can be on hold for a few days.
Wave season, a busy promotional period in the cruise-purchasing world from January (sometimes December) to March, is not only a time to buy for price, but to book for availability. The very beginning of the year can be a great time to put down a deposit on your summer vacation, securing the space you need in the cabins you want months ahead of time.

The Caribbean is temperate all year round, but it can get chilly in the winter and make swimming uncomfortable. This is a problem if you want to take advantage of the region’s excellent snorkeling and scuba diving opportunities. Sail during the spring or fall if you want to do water sports in warm temperatures but don’t want to deal with excessive summer heat. Hurricane season extends through November, so it’s best to choose spring to avoid potential tropical storms. Cruise Critic warns that you are at a higher risk for flight delays or cancellations if you sail during the winter, so consider buying trip insurance.
If you are a Costco member and choosing a balcony cabin or more, then we suggest CostcoTravel.com as the best website to book a cruise. It’s the largest and simplest incentive we’ve seen for booking online.
Holland America in general is known for catering to an older and more sophisticated crowd, and this cruise is no exception. It will be mostly older Americans and Canadians with a sprinkling of families with kids.
Started in Italy, MSC only recently entered the North American cruise market with these winter Caribbean excursions. In the rest of the world, MSC cruises tend to be dominated by European guests, but now with their Miami-based cruises they attract mostly a North American crowd. They used to have 2 formal nights per cruise, and now the buffet restaurant is casual all the time, although the main dining room is a bit more formal. This sailing is on the MSC Seaside, which can carry as many as 5,179 passengers.
The January-through-March “wave period” is traditionally the cruise industry’s busiest booking period. During this time, cruise lines make about 35 percent of their annual sales. This is the time when they pull out all the stops, offering consumers many hot deals.
Summer and early fall in the Caribbean mean plenty of bargain fares, especially the last two weeks of August and the first week of September as families get ready for school. The first week of January, right after the Christmas/New Year’s peak fare period, also tends to be a great time for low-cost cruise fares from Florida to the Caribbean. Our advice: Plan to book at least six to eight months in advance to get the best deals on low-season sailings.
If you prefer to book further in advance, or if you have a specific cruise in mind, use our Find a Bargain tool. You’ll find a treasure trove of early bird discounts, two-for-ones and other cut-rate promotions, on every cruise line in the world.
For those that can afford it, luxury cruises are a great vacation option because they bundle so many different charges into one generally all-inclusive price. They can also be the only option if you’re looking for adventurous and exotic ports in increasingly popular destinations like the Galapagos and Antarctica.
Doug advises that you start with a travel agent, as they have relationships with the cruise companies and can often get better rates and last-minute deals. And my experience has me agreeing. While there are many “do it yourself” options, travel agents often can find much lower prices and can act as liaison to cruise companies when something goes wrong.
TRANS-ATLANTIC: Follow in the footsteps of those before you in crossing the Atlantic. Cruise the great cosmopolitan centers and far-flung reaches of Europe with a variety of itineraries to choose from. Great Rates from just $899*

Now I’m not saying that to “experience” a cruise is about partying, getting drunk, eating expensive meals and spending $200 a day but I feel if you are taking a cruise and you want to have a memorable time you HAVE to be prepared to spend a little money. I’d be furious if I booked a cruise and it was full of people not doing anything just to save money. You may as well go to Thailand for a month and sit in the sun there like you suggested!

In today’s ultracompetitive travel market, many independent agents will do their best to beat the lowest quote you’ve found. So if a travel agent quotes you the same rate as the cruise line, you should keep shopping around.
While the bulk of a travel agent’s income comes from commissions paid by the cruise lines, most travel agents also charge a small service fee ($15 to $30) for their time and effort, though not all do. Most travel agents who do choose to charge for their service are worth the expense, as they tend to be the most educated and well-traveled in the industry. High-end travel agents, like those that belong to the Virtuoso or Signature consortiums, will typically charge more, but they’re less likely to sell mainstream cruises like Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian. Consortiums — and there are several travel agency consortiums out there — are groups of agencies that pay a yearly fee to participate in a large selection of shared programs and resources.
7-Night Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises are available aboard Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Magic, as well as on Disney Fantasy. Shorter cruises are also available through Disney, as they feature 3-, 4- and 5-night Bahamas cruises on Disney Dream and Disney Magic. Disney also offers packages that combine their cruises with land stays at their fun-filled resorts in nearby Orlando, creating a truly magical vacation!

THE BAHAMAS: A visit to The Bahamas is the perfect antidote to life’s everyday demands. Located on Merritt Island, Kennedy Space Center (KSC) is where NASA launches its space shuttles from. This is one of Florida’s most popular tourist attractions, as there is a wonderful facility for visitors to take tours of (which are typically available every fifteen minutes, after 10 am and ending at 2:15 pm – subject to change). This venue is open year round (except on certain holidays and launch days). Among the many attractions at KSC are an IMAX® theater, the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame® and the Shuttle Launch Experience.

Tip 10: Just remember that the boat will leave without you, so give yourself enough time to get back. Doug Parker recommends the company Shore Excursions Group whose activities are 30% cheaper and offers a guarantee that it will get you back to the boat in time.
Cruises can be expensive affairs. First, ships reel you in with a “cheap” room and an onboard credit but then smack you around with high-priced drinks, non-included restaurants, and dollar-a-minute Internet. A couple of years ago, I went on the Oasis of the Seas (one of the largest boats in the world) on a seven-day cruise around the Caribbean. The listed price of this cruise?
Carnival Cruise Lines features 3- to 5-night Bahamas cruises from Port Canaveral aboard Carnival Ecstasy and Carnival Sensation, as well as 5-night Eastern Caribbean cruises on Carnival Sensation. One of Carnival’s youngest ships, Carnival Dream, does 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises from Port Canaveral.
For more savings, it might be worth checking out Royal Caribbean’s shareholder benefit. Basically, if you own 100 shares of RCL stock, you can get up to $250 of onboard credit per trip on RCL, Celebrity, or Azamara — more than enough to pay for gratuities on a longer cruise. This apparently can’t be combined with other offers, but most other offers for cheap cruises aren’t really in this range from what I’ve seen. (Also, some people have said that this doesn’t apply to travel agent promotions. Who knows!)
Seahub is one of the newest booking engines and perhaps the nicest to use. The site offers a lot of options to find the perfect cruise and because it’s focused solely on cruises (unlike other travel sites), it’s much more user friendly.
We just sailed with MSC and after lots of research traveling with 2 kids under the age of 11 it was the best price out there. There were lots of families on the divina. My kids had a blast. Food and shows were awesome. Cruise for 4 in a balcony room with 12 drinKS each and 200 shipboard credit was 2400! Beat that on another cruise line for 7 days we will be cruising msc again
If you want to leave from one of the Florida ports near a major airport, Carnival Cruise Lines is the low-price leader. The 7-night cruise is on the Carnival Glory, which is now based year-round in Miami and can carry 2,974 passengers. The 4-night cruise is on the Carnival Victory.
Check out CruiseCompete.com. After you complete a quick registration, you can post an anonymous ad to which travel agents can respond with their best offers. The key is to be specific about what you are looking for. An agent or agents will often get back to you with price quotes the first day.
As for Alaska, more ships are heading there than ever before, but with a five-month season (May through September) the most in-demand ships and cabins will not only fill quickly but also begin booking up for next year.
If you are a Costco member and choosing a balcony cabin or more, then we suggest CostcoTravel.com as the best website to book a cruise. It’s the largest and simplest incentive we’ve seen for booking online.
Nancy Bogert, an award-winning travel agent with Cruise Planners, has seen interest double this January, as compared with last wave season. “It’s hard to stay on top of all the promotions, but people want perks,” says Bogert.
Sunday newspapers often carry ads for big cruise bargains in their travel sections. Larger metropolitan-area papers and papers in or near cruise embarkation cities are especially good for finding deals. For example, to find discounts for Miami, Fort Lauderdale or Port Canaveral embarkations, you should check the newspapers in those cities. You can purchase a short-term subscription to these papers or research them at your local library. If you’re looking to cruise out of Galveston, check the Houston Chronicle and the Dallas Morning News, whose travel ads are online.
Another in the more traditional and mid-market category, Celebrity Cruises is in the process of updating many of its ships to conform to modern demands, and the Celebrity Equinox on this 7 night journey was just refurbished. With a maximum capacity of 2,850 passengers, this ship feels more upmarket than the cheaper ships, and it’s meant to appeal to a younger and more trendy audience.
Outside of personal recommendations from friends and family, your best bet for finding a good travel agent is to visit the Cruise Lines International Association’s website and search the Cruise Expert Finder. You can search by geographic location if you want someone who lives near you or by expertise if you want someone who specializes in a specific line or type of cruise. Cruise Critic also recommends you look for agents with CLIA-accredited designations like ACC, MCC or ECC, as these indicate the agent has invested a lot of time and money into his or her cruise education. Also look for any training the agent has done with individual lines. Other affiliations that are good signs an agent is legitimate are affiliations with the National Association of Cruise Oriented Agencies (NACOA) and the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA).

Koepf sums up the advice best: “Travel during the offseason versus peak travel dates and holidays, and [take] advantage of resident rates, past passenger perks, exclusive promotions, and unpublished rates that may be available when booking through a professional travel agent. There are many ways travelers can benefit from booking with a travel agent because of their extensive knowledge, access to extraordinary deals, and the personal service they provide. [Agents] will do whatever they can to make sure [their customers] receive the best value and provide services that go way beyond the planning stages of a trip. [Because of that, travelers] can enjoy their vacation without a worry in the world knowing that their travel agent is just a phone call away.”

Disadvantages: First, sometimes Costco has higher fares than what’s found on other sites. If booking a high-grade cabin (which usually has a higher incentive) then the incentive usually covers the price difference. You may not come out ahead if paying more for an interior room.
The cheapest rates for Caribbean cruises are typically offered between September and early January, according to the Cruise Critic information site, with the exception of holiday weeks. Bargains are also found between mid April and the end of May. Bargains are particularly good during the fall, which is peak hurricane season. Take advantage of this if you don’t mind a possible itinerary change or cancellation of the cruise because of a storm. You may also miss a port over the winter when seas have a greater chance of being rough, which is why the bargains run through the beginning of January.

These websites do a detailed job of scouring the web for cheap cruise deals. Vacations to Go is more of a travel agent/operator and thus often has better deals since they can negotiate with the cruise lines directly, but keep in mind that they add a lot of fees. Cruise Sheet is simply a website aggregator that crawls the web and then displays cheap last-minute fares. This is my favorite cruise site, as it seems to find all the deals and makes finding a cheap cruise easy. Cruise Deals has a weekly deals newsletter worth subscribing to.

About bringing on your own alcohol, wine, beer…actually you can’t. Security check in on cruise ships will tag any booze you try to bring in and store it for the duration of the cruise. They’ll give it back after cruise is over. Sure you could try to smuggle some onboard via the “Rum Runner” beverage holders. I don’t drink all that much and many cruise promotions will offer an “On-Board Spending Credit” or Drink Voucher Package. I booked a cruise and got both for a cabin upgrade.
Large online cruise discount agencies like cruise.com, icruise.com, 1-800-cruises.com and cruise411.com offer some of the lowest cruise rates anywhere. Travel megasites like Expedia, Orbitz and Travelocity often have excellent deals as well, particularly on last-minute cruises. Recent comparison-shopping found that prices with the large dedicated cruise sites tended to fall within a few dollars of each other. Expedia, Orbitz and Travelocity all offered similar prices that were slightly higher.
Not always Smaller is cheaper what you have to look its not the actual size is the type or class or whatever the company name the different kind of ships. for example in Royal in the Caribbean route if you compare the adventure of the seas Voyager class and the Jewel of the seas Radiance Class the Adventure (bigger ship) is cheaper than the Jewel (in the same route) but the Radiance has a little more luxury.
MSC Cruises, a Switzerland-based line that caters to Europeans, often offers seven-night cruises on its mega ship MSC Divina for as little as $499 per person out of Miami. Costa Cruises, which is headquartered in Italy but is part of the Carnival Corporation, has three affordably priced ships in the Caribbean from November to March.

Most tourists come to Europe in the summer, but the late spring and early fall have more pleasant temperatures and not as many crowds. You’ll find the lowest cruise prices at the beginning and end of each season; prices rise dramatically for the summer months.
For example, we found a cruise offering a $45 Costco Cash Card for booking the cheapest stateroom for just $409. In other words, it’s like getting about 11% off the price of your cruise. The cash increases substantially with upgraded cabins.
Norwegian Cruise Line is famous for pioneering the “freestyle cruising” concept, where passengers can select from a wide range of restaurants and activities and go whenever they like rather than on a rigid schedule. This cruise is on the Norwegian Epic, carrying a maximum of 4,100 passengers, which counts more than 20 freestyle-dining restaurants on board. This massive ship also has extensive children’s programs, branded by Nickelodeon.
Fully equipped gyms with Technogym® gear and as well as on-hand personal trainers are available on hand to provide you with expert assistance.

It used to be that if you wanted to book a cruise, you’d visit a travel agent or call up the cruise line. You can still take those routes, but the cruise line websites make it simple to book your trip.
Cruising is big business, and that’s why you have dozens of websites at your disposal, all competing for your travel dollars. From the major cruise line websites like Carnival.com to major travel portals such as Orbitz or Expedia to lesser-known sites that specialize in cruises like Seahub.com, it can seem like your options are nearly unlimited… and overwhelming.

If you are worried about finding the best price for your cruise, there’s some good news and bad news. The good news is that prices for cruises are usually the exact same across every single website you search.
Fares on older ships can be about half that of newer vessels in the fleet — $369 per person for a seven-night Western Caribbean cruise from Miami in early January 2017 on Carnival Splendor, for example. Norwegian is “refreshing” its older ships right now too, with everything from new carpet to a hot new Mexican restaurant.
Walker touts Regent’s cruise package to Alaska. “The trip includes not only the cruise, airfare, gratuities and all shore excursions, but the client also receives one night in Anchorage, all transfers, a $300 onboard credit and a $500 AMEX gift card for the same price as the cruise-only rate,” he says. “It’s the best luxury value package to Alaska we’ve seen, starting at $4,199.”
When you’re ready to purchase your cruise, you can either go directly to the cruise line you’ve chosen, or you can book a cruise with a travel agent. Bookings can be made online or over the phone with either the cruise line or the travel agent. With travel agents, you can often also meet face-to-face. Travel agents come in many varieties, including the traditional curbside store like Liberty Travel and AAA; online websites like Expedia, Cruise.com and CruiseDeals.com; and franchises like Cruise One and Cruise Planners, which are made up of small home businesses all operating under the same name.

Within Europe, Portugal’s Douro River remains the most coveted river cruise destination for 2018, says Kaplan. The best overall value right now is France. “It’s a quality experience and less crowded than other rivers, especially in Europe,” he says.

Florida has five main cruise ship ports: In addition to Miami, you can cruise from Fort Lauderdale, Port Canaveral, and Jacksonville on the Atlantic Coast and Tampa on the Gulf Coast. Carnival cruises from all five, while Royal Caribbean and Norwegian offer itineraries from all but Jacksonville.
MSC has a “Kids Sail Free” program that lets two children under the age of 12 stay in their parents’ cabin without a charge on select sailings. It’s hard to beat that deal for a cheap cruise from Florida for a family of four!

This is great advice for those of us who don’t drink or gamble. Some of us people do have fun just sitting in the sun, eating, reading, doing yoga and using the free amenities offered on a ship. I don’t understand why some people have to dink alcohol and gamble to have a good time. To each their own.
We did make an exception to our normally strict policy of no cruise line sponsored excursions. In Belize, the ships docks pretty far from shore, so you have to take tenders (small boats) to port, which takes thirty to forty minutes. If you are not taking a ship-sponsored excursion, you are unlikely to get a seat on a tender until after all the excursions have left. Plus, most excursions in Belize are forty-five minutes to an hour out from the port, and they only hold the ship if it’s one of their excursions. (They may have to pay big fees to depart late.) Weighing the risks and benefits, we booked through Carnival, had a blast, and were worry free. This made Belize much more expensive as a port, but it was one of the best port days we’ve ever had. (We went for free activities in the other ports to compensate, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.) I don’t regret our choice, but I don’t think I would pay for a cruise line excursion again except under similar exceptional circumstances.

Tip 9: Plan your own shore excursions — Cruise-run shore excursions are overpriced and crowded. Instead, do some research online and plan your own activities with local operators who will get to keep all the money. You’ll save money, support the local economy even more directly, and avoid the hordes that will clutter your photos.

The other tips about bringing your own supplies, washing your own clothes are good tips though and I enjoyed the first part of the article about waiting to book tours/cruises late, I never would have thought of that – for some reason I always assumed the later you book the more expensive it would be but it makes sense that they would want a full cruise

All inclusive cruise packages differ depending on which cruise line you chose. Most of the major cruise lines offer all inclusive deals that cover meals and non-alcoholic beverages, although you should check whether there is a restriction on which dining venues you are permitted to use. Some cruise ships will have main dining rooms open to all, while elite restaurants and bars may not be covered within the all inclusive deal. It’s also common for entertainment and sports facilities to be covered under all inclusive cruise packages. Gyms and cinemas will be included in these packages, while more unusual facilities like ice-skating rinks, or entertainment events like onboard musicals or comedy acts, may not be covered. A good selection of all inclusive cruises include use of the spa, so cruisers can take advantage of hot tubs, saunas, and steam rooms, but may charge extra for specialty treatments such as face masks or massages. Therefore, it’s best to read the small print when choosing these deals.
As for Alaska, more ships are heading there than ever before, but with a five-month season (May through September) the most in-demand ships and cabins will not only fill quickly but also begin booking up for next year.
What is the point of taking a cruise if you are “avoiding anything that costs” money – don’t drink alcohol, avoid the casino, avoid the spa, avoid the restaurant…the article is pretty much saying “You can take a cruise but don’t expect to have any fun unless you can do it sober laying on a chair quietly”
The Caribbean is by far the most popular part of the world for cruises, and thanks to a surge in popularity of the activity, it can now be explored by those in almost every budget category. Considering it’s mostly an all-inclusive holiday and the departure ports are generally near cheap and popular airports, a Caribbean cruise can be done so inexpensively that it might be shocking.

We asked a panel of eight cruise and travel professional for their tips and insight into finding the absolute best cruise bargains this year — and when to book them. I don’t mean for my above comment to sound mean ( not taking jabs). You could even go a few steps further and ask for all your daily tips to be re-credited to your account (ships charge a day rate to all passengers for the tips for the dinning staff). But why?? This is how people make a living. I don’t work for ships (I’m not sure what line if work your in Matt?) but what’s if someone had a blog telling people how to take “your” product cheaper bc we feel like it’s too expensive. I’m sure the operating costs of ships are outrages. They NEED people to spend money on the very things you are telling people not to spend it on. Ships will not be around if they operate in the negative. Anyway, thanks for letting me rant on your blog.
When it comes to cruising, it doesn’t get any bigger than Royal Caribbean’s Oasis-class ships. Comprising Oasis of the Seas, Allure of the Seas, Harmony of the Seas and 2018’s Symphony of the Seas, the class is the biggest in the world in terms of passenger capacity (up to 5,518 at
While Priceline may be famous for naming your price on hotel rooms, that’s not the case for cruises, unfortunately. Their rates are in line with competitors, charging $1,194 for a balcony room on the cruise in question.
It amazes me that people actually pay for internet and phone access on cruises. I know I like to just disconnect for several days. If there’s an emergency, use the ship’s phone to handle it. But, at least for me, Facebook and Twitter can be on hold for a few days.

Even on these Caribbean journeys, the crowds on the MSC ships are very international, with a great number of Europeans mixed in with Americans and Canadians. You won’t see as many families on this cruise as it’s more suited to the adult crowd.
Winter cruises are no longer the indulgence of the rich and privileged few. In fact, cruises are the fastest-growing sector of the travel industry. According to Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), which represents 19 major cruise lines, more than 10 million people worldwide took a cruise in 2005, and that number is expected to more than double in the next five years.

Among the many things to do at Cocoa Beach are taking part in water sports (such as deep sea fishing and parasailing), dining, golfing, shopping, enjoying the great nightlife, or simply relaxing under the sun at the beach.
There is a diverse program of activities on board, including spectacular Broadway-style shows in the theater, live music in the bars and lounges, a casino, sports activities and tournaments. Rich resort facilities are also offered including whirlpool tubs, multiple pools and Aqua Parks.
Advantages: The good thing about booking directly through the cruise line then there is no third-party company to deal with should there be an issue with your trip. Want to make a change or get a refund? You don’t have to worry about any sort of mix-up between the cruise line and another website. While this is rarely an issue, it could happen.

Every major cruise line allows you to book online and do everything from find a cruise to make upgrades, to pay for the trip. In other words, you can book your spot on the ship completely online at any time of the day.
Disadvantages: The only drawback is that booking through third-party websites introduce a “middle man” into your cruise booking. The vast majority of the time that creates no issue. However, if there is a reason where you need to change your booking or get a refund, then it could be a little more complicated than booking directly through the cruise line.
That depends on what you mean by saving money. Generally speaking, the prices that travel agents can provide are the same as what the cruise lines offer. Travel agents are prohibited from rebating their commissions — in order to lower pricing or give significant onboard credit rewards — by almost every single cruise line. Some agents still practice rebating, but if they’re caught by the cruise lines, they could lose their selling privileges.
Europe is so big that you can’t lump all its cruises together. The Mediterranean cruise season runs from April through November. Northern Europe and Baltic cruises have a shorter season running from May to October, while the warmer Greek islands and Canary Islands see cruise ships between March and December.
Beyond the excellent advice and onboard perks cruise sellers can provide, one of the greatest things about working with a travel agent is she or he will have your back if something goes wrong. Because a cruise line is typically an enormous entity, making sure you’re satisfied is not always the most important thing to a cruise line sales rep. While the line would love to have you back as a repeat customer, its reps won’t lose sleep if you move on because of a bad experience. Travel agents, on the other hand, have much more of an incentive to keep you coming back, as their customer list is significantly smaller than the cruise line’s. If something goes wrong with your booking or on the ship itself, a good travel agent will be on the phone with her or his contact at the cruise line immediately to try to get everything fixed.
If you are a Costco member and choosing a balcony cabin or more, then we suggest CostcoTravel.com as the best website to book a cruise. It’s the largest and simplest incentive we’ve seen for booking online.
So should you use aggregator sites? Absolutely. They are the first place you should look for a cruise. Smart cruise shoppers use them to look at all their options and see what sort of incentives they have for booking through their site.
Not as casual and fun-minded as the cheapest Caribbean cruises, the Princess sailings attract a bit more formality and a higher age range, though families with children are mixed in as well. Expect mostly Americans and Canadians on these cruises, with a sprinkling of Brits and other Europeans.
Travel agents also can help with any special arrangements, whether it’s organizing a wedding ceremony in a port of call, ordering gluten-free meals, or dealing with accessibility or medical issues. They can also help with pre- or post-cruise travel, such as booking hotels and flights or arranging tours.
What You Get: This luxury line features smaller ships and a diverse range of itineraries, including an expedition arm. Silversea fares include gratuities; open bar throughout the ship, plus an in-cabin bar setup; butler service; at least one free hour of Wi-Fi (more if you’re in a higher-category suite); 24-hour room service; fitness classes; expedition gear (where applicable); and shuttle service into town.
You can sail to the Caribbean year-round, but the best time to go is when it’s coldest in the northern hemisphere. Not only is the warm Caribbean climate a welcome respite from bad weather, but December through April are the driest months in the islands as well. The cheapest times to cruise are typically in the late summer and fall because of hurricane season. But you can often find patches of bargain sailings, especially during the early weeks of December and in the spring. The timing of spring discounts isn’t always consistent, so it’s best to keep an eye out and book when you see a low rate.
However, unlike airlines that are basically interchangeable, cruise lines each tend to fit into a price category and have a personality of their own. There are 13 different cruise companies (including a few small-ship luxury outfits) that cover the Caribbean, and a scan of the information below should help you narrow your best options down to only one or two of the lines.
Tired of not knowing what the final price will be on your holiday? Then you might want to take a look at luxury all-inclusive cruises. While the initial fare may be higher than for other cruises, luxury all-inclusive cruises provide value by offering perks such as wine, beer and spirits, gratuities, shore excursions and even flights in the cruise fare. Plus, you’re spared the hassle of a big bill at the end of your cruise.

One of the more interesting things about the cruise market is that each line tends to attract a certain crowd, so passengers are most likely to enjoy themselves if they choose the one that suits their own preferences best. Unsurprisingly, the cheaper cruise lines tend to attract families and younger people, although Disney cruises are also obviously aimed at families and those start at about triple the price of Carnival.

If you thought Europe was still available at a discount, you might be surprised by how many other people are thinking the same thing. “Europe — all destinations in Europe — are the buzz right now,” says Barker. “2018 is quite the bounce back year for Europe.”
“People are booking six to nine months ahead of their travel departure,” says Daly, and other travel agents agree with that window. “We have seen an increase in our overall booking window. I strongly recommend people plan early and begin to make arrangements largely to ensure they get the best space and can take advantage of any early booking discounts. Really any cruise itinerary can be booked now, but consumers should be aware that the farther out you secure your spot on any cruise will translate to the best cabin location and usually the best value.”

Having fun in port doesn’t mean you have to shell out a ton of money on shore excursions or private tours. Depending on where you cruise, there are a number of activities that allow you to relax, explore or get a taste of the culture free of charge. Swim at a hidden cove, visit an old church or
If you are worried about finding the best price for your cruise, there’s some good news and bad news. The good news is that prices for cruises are usually the exact same across every single website you search.

Some final advice for anyone interested in booking a river cruise: “The biggest single mistake consumers make is booking direct with cruise line,” says Kaplan, with all due respect. “It’s not a better deal or a better experience. Agents have a checklist of questions to ensure you’re booking the right cruise for you. Online can imply certain things but the consumer needs to rely on specialists as well; there’s advice only a person could impart. Don’t buy on price alone.”
I’m not 100% sure, but I believe they are the same as Carnival and don’t allow travel agents to discount. I would think you would get more on board credit or other perks from a travel agency compared to Carnival due to the higher price.
Enjoy the 23-day Mighty Mississippi cruise for the price of the 16-day cruise. No single supplement for solo travelers! Enjoy inclusions such as a pre-cruise hotel stay, remarkable shore excursions, wine and beer with dinner, live entertainment, and more on the American Duchess or American Queen. Read More
While Priceline may be famous for naming your price on hotel rooms, that’s not the case for cruises, unfortunately. Their rates are in line with competitors, charging $1,194 for a balcony room on the cruise in question.
The downside to so much interest is higher pricing that matches high demand with a limited number of cabins. “We continue to see fares increase for new ships such as the Norwegian Bliss, Celebrity Edge and Carnival Horizon due to the tremendous demand in wave season,” says Coiro. “My suggestion for anyone that wishes to sail on these new ships for 2018 is that they should book now and not wait. Inventory will be scarce, and pricing will be much higher once these ships begin to sail in a few months.”
For example, we found a cruise offering a $45 Costco Cash Card for booking the cheapest stateroom for just $409. In other words, it’s like getting about 11% off the price of your cruise. The cash increases substantially with upgraded cabins.
There are some exceptions to the same price rule, however. Agents often have access to group pricing (buying cabins in bulk at lower per-room rates), which the agency consortium or franchise group they belong to has been able to negotiate with the cruise lines. Along with group pricing, they might have special perks to offer like onboard spending money, prepaid gratuities, a free bottle of wine or comped dinner in a for-fee restaurant. Even if the price is the same, these additional perks are often where the savings come in. Prepaid gratuities, for instance, can save you hundreds of dollars, depending on how many people are in your cruise group.

“Would you buy a car directly from the manufacturer or from a dealer?” asks Walker. “Most people would say a dealer because they are the ones able to offer additional incentives on many of their cars. Travel agencies are similar. An agency price will never be higher than the cruise line but most of the time through agency promotions can be less. Agencies can also save clients money on ancillary products such as shore excursions and travel insurance. Most importantly is the unbiased advice that you can’t get from one, single cruise line. A good agent wants to match their client with the right cruise line based on the client’s unique and individual needs and desires. The priority goes to the client and not booking a specific cruise line.”
“There is still a good amount of growth occurring within river cruising,” adds Drew Daly, general manager of network engagement and performance for Dream Vacations, Cruise One and Cruises, Inc. “More and more ocean cruise passengers are gravitating towards experiencing a river cruise because of the uniqueness of the product.”
Thanks for the great post. This is perfect timing for me, as I may have to leave North America this summer and will be heading to Europe. It looks like a cruise *might* work out the same as, or even cheaper than a flight…which is pretty awesome.

Alaska has a very short cruising season; ships traverse its northern waters only between May and September. The months of June through August offer the warmest weather in this chilly state and are therefore the best and most popular times to cruise. In May and September, you’ll find some closures and a bit more chill in the air, but you’ll also find the best prices. In addition, May is the driest month of the Alaska cruise season, so you’re less likely to be rained out of your flightseeing tour or glacier walk.
Most schools have a break between June and August. Some employers make employees take their vacation time at some point during the summer months. Most cruise lines charge their highest prices for Caribbean cruises during the summer because of this, but it may be the best time for you if you’re under work constraints or have school–age children.
Does that mean it’s worthless to shop around? No way. Since most sites have the same prices, many offer incentives such as onboard credit to get you to book with them. On some trips, these incentives can be worth hundreds of dollars.
As you would expect in this price range, the dress tends to be casual and the ships attract a wide mix of younger and older and families and couples, mostly from the United States and Canada, particularly from Texas and Louisiana on this departure.
What You Get: Regent is perhaps the most all-inclusive cruise line sailing the seas. Fares include roundtrip air (business class on intercontinental flights) with transfers, gratuities, open bar (including the minibar in your suite), all restaurants, shore excursions (with several free options per port), fitness classes, unlimited Wi-Fi and 24-hour room service.
Searching for our 7-night cruise, we found it for $1,194 for the balcony room — the exact same price found on Carnival’s website. In addition, the incentives offered by Expedia were the same. Booking through the site offered $50 in onboard credit and 50% off the normal deposit amount.

America’s largest cruise agency allows you to search for your cruise by destination, cruise line, departure port, length, or date. You can also get plenty of information about destinations and cruise lines.
“Summer in the Caribbean is absolutely where the deals are right now,” says Nielsen. “Hurricane season left bookings a little softer than the cruise lines would like, so both the pricing and the promotions are attractive. If guests are looking for the absolute lowest rates, then Carnival Cruise Line’s Caribbean cruises from their many homeports offer some of the lowest per diems in the industry.” Bogert noted great deals on other cruise lines, as well, specifically calling out Princess for great fares.
Tip 10: Just remember that the boat will leave without you, so give yourself enough time to get back. Doug Parker recommends the company Shore Excursions Group whose activities are 30% cheaper and offers a guarantee that it will get you back to the boat in time.
For example, we found a cruise offering a $45 Costco Cash Card for booking the cheapest stateroom for just $409. In other words, it’s like getting about 11% off the price of your cruise. The cash increases substantially with upgraded cabins.
The Freestyle Cruising thing ends up attracting a wide range of passengers, including some who prefer to dress formally on formal nights. So you can expect families and older folks along with a lot of romantic couples from all age ranges, primarily from the US and Canada.
Note: Where did I get that price? That’s the cheapest listed price on Cruise Sheet, a website I explain below. I’ve been tracking prices for months, and that is generally the consistent cheapest figure.

Nice post Matt. I totally agree that cruises are relaxing and not really traveling. You don’t get to see much of the destination which is actually why I avoid cruises. However, you made me rethink cruises as a way to actually just RELAX and not worry about what mountain to climb, what crazy beach I need to go to, and how to get to the next city. I can just chill and let the boat take care of everything. 🙂

Advantages: Costco is well-known for its low prices, great deals, and customer service. Buying a cruise through the store might not enter many people’s minds, but it can save you big. Like other cruise-buying websites, Costco offers rates that are the same as what you’ll find anywhere else.

Other cruise lines are more popular for couples or older passengers or those who prefer a more formal or traditional style of cruising. If you read through the descriptions of each line below, you can probably narrow down your choices quickly, and hopefully the price range will match as well.
Like CruisesOnly.com, you also have the option of $50 in onboard credit or no deposit required. The company also has an offer of “double cruise cash,” however, we couldn’t find any details on what exactly this offer entailed.
If you’re looking for a great deal on a cruise there are a number of websites that exist specifically to make your search easier. While top travel sites like Travelzoo, Expedia, Orbitz and others have sections specifically for cruises, we’ll be looking at sites that focus exclusively on cruises. Here are 15 of the best.
Cruise Critic is not a booking agent and does not charge any service fees to users of our site. Our partners who list cruise pricing on Cruise Critic are required to provide prices for cruise only, per person, double occupancy, and are based on specific cabin types and sailing dates, and may not be available for all cabin types/sailings. Taxes, fees and port expenses not included. Rates are in USD and valid for US and Canadian residents only. Fuel supplement may apply. When you book with one of our partners, please be sure to check their site for a full disclosure of all applicable fees as required by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
I’ll second Cruise Compete. We booked our honeymoon cruise through them and save $1000 on the cruise price and got $325 onboard credit. My fiancé’s coworker uses them for his cruises and also loves the deals they give. It seemed scammy at first because of the whole “put in your email and we’ll send you quotes” but it’s legit. And once you book, you can turn off the alerts/quotes. You can also set up multiple quotes for different cruises if you’re looking at different options.
Bermuda cruises sail from April through mid-November, mostly during Bermuda’s high or “beach” season. Most people travel during the summer months, making those voyages pricier, but you’ll find deals on spring and fall departures (April through early June and September through November). Bermuda has temperate weather year-round and is less affected by hurricanes than its Caribbean neighbors. If it’s too chilly for the beach in the shoulder season, you can always try out the island’s many golf courses and spas.
Travel agents also can help with any special arrangements, whether it’s organizing a wedding ceremony in a port of call, ordering gluten-free meals, or dealing with accessibility or medical issues. They can also help with pre- or post-cruise travel, such as booking hotels and flights or arranging tours.
TRANS-ATLANTIC: Follow in the footsteps of those before you in crossing the Atlantic. Cruise the great cosmopolitan centers and far-flung reaches of Europe with a variety of itineraries to choose from. Great Rates from just $899*
CARIBBEAN: You’ll Find Water in Every Shade of Blue. And, when it comes to beautiful beaches and sparkling blue waters, the Caribbean is really in a league of its own. Countless adventures within reach on your cruise vacation. Great Rates from just $299!
These are moderated message boards. What this means is that we do our best to remove all objectionable messages from the boards. It also means that you cannot say whatever you’d like on the forums. If you are looking for an “anything goes” setting, Cruise Critic might not be the place for you. Understand, too, that our community is comprised of folks who LOVE to cruise. It therefore stands to reason that they will have a favorite cruise line or port of call — in other words, they are “fans” and will sometimes take offense when a brand new member has arrived on the scene to bash a cruise line.
CruiseSheet is the bomb, but it should be noted that if you’re traveling by yourself, the single supplement surcharge usually kicks up the price 2x. Also, cabin prices can fluctuate significantly from day to day. I’ve even seen them fall by as much as $300 overnight! (And back up the next day, alas.)
Cruisecompete allows travel agents to make an offer on your cruise, but you have to know exactly what cruise you want. Sometimes travel agents can provide on board credit or discounts depending on the cruise line. I’ve gotten my best deals through cruisecompete.
It looks like only Carnival will fit your needs for your dates and length. Unfortunately, Carnival doesn’t allow travel agents to discount prices so what you see on the Carnival site is probably the best there is. However, you may be able to get a bit of on board credit through a travel agent.
Coiro adds that many cruise lines are also offering onboard credit as an incentive for Caribbean bookings, and that because of all the investments cruise lines have made in the region, pricing is competitive and bonus amenities make these sailings an incredible value.

The moment you step aboard a luxury cruise ship, a hostess is at your arm proffering a glass of bubbly while a capable room steward offers to heft your carry-on as he escorts you to what will be your home-away-from-home for the next few days. You stow your things (likely in a walk-in
The concept of “deals” in the luxury realm was nearly unheard of a few years ago, but as cruise lines in all sectors grow, luxury lines are finding new ways to compete for passengers. Discounts and even value-adds on top of the typical inclusions have been cropping up for more upscale lines — don’t leave them out of your wave season deals hunt. And bundled experiences — with most trip components packaged together in one up-front fare — can be time and money savers for travelers with a larger vacation budget.

We love cruises too, Matt! I was always the person that said “NO” to cruises- “I always said, “I am a back-packer, we don’t cruise!:-)”. Then a friend convinced me to just try it…..LOVED IT! for all the reasons you list. We have employed most of the tips you have listed, especially pre-cruise research for port trips. But I do agree with one comentor about enjoying the experience. Our cruise to Alaska was really enhanced with the Salmon BBQ that cost extra. We are about to embark on our first reposition cruise- we are using this 14 day cruise ($599) to get from Florida to Spain for some long term travel! We will wait for fall to book a return cruise (very exciting!!). Travelzoo is another site to find cheap cruises and Vacations To Go was our go-to site for our previous cruises.
American Discount Cruises & Travel is proud to offer the best deals possible on all cruises from Port Canaveral. Backed by our “Low Price Guarantee,” and powered by our team of expert travel agents, we’re sure to exceed your expectations when booking your next cruise departing from Port Canaveral!
The January-through-March “wave period” is traditionally the cruise industry’s busiest booking period. During this time, cruise lines make about 35 percent of their annual sales. This is the time when they pull out all the stops, offering consumers many hot deals.
Cruise Critic is not a booking agent and does not charge any service fees to users of our site. Our partners who list cruise pricing on Cruise Critic are required to provide prices for cruise only, per person, double occupancy, and are based on specific cabin types and sailing dates, and may not be available for all cabin types/sailings. Taxes, fees and port expenses not included. Rates are in USD and valid for US and Canadian residents only. Fuel supplement may apply. When you book with one of our partners, please be sure to check their site for a full disclosure of all applicable fees as required by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Things we did different is we danced quite a bit in different place in town( we are ballroom dancer ) And we Geocached. A great way to get around town and search for treasures. Most of the time the caches are located in a place with a great view or something interesting to learn about.
Port Canaveral is located along Florida’s Space Coast, where you can find NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. Because of the port’s proximity to the tourist-mecca of Orlando (about a 45 minute drive), cruises from Port Canaveral are quite popular year round. Those that take a cruise from Port Canaveral typically fly into Orlando International Airport. Many of such travelers opt to stay a few days in Orlando before and/or after their cruise from Port Canaveral (since it’s the home of many theme parks, such as Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and SeaWorld).
Yes, there are differences between booking directly with the cruise line versus using a travel agent. Most specifically, travel agents are known for giving more personalized service than cruise lines, though some cruise sales representatives can be attentive and helpful.
Not only are these shorter cruises, which typically visit the Bahamas or Key West and Cozumel, a great value, but they’re also a great introductory experience for first-time cruisers or couples with kids trying to determine if it’s the right kind of vacation for the whole family. Look for bargain basement rates of three days for as little as $179 per person or five days for just $269 per person.
Great money-saving tips, Matt! There’s another you didn’t address, but that I have used. Cruise lines offer a shareholder benefit so anyone with a stock account can buy shares and get cash in their onboard account.
We’ve outlined before the best sites to buy a cruise. But that focused mainly on the ease of searching and finding a trip that matched both your schedule and your budget. This was the first time we’ve looked at several sites individually to see exactly which has the best offer.
Jamaica Montego Bay, Negril, Ocho Rios Martinique Martinique Netherlands Antilles Bonaire, Curaçao, St. Martin/Sint Maarten Puerto Rico Rincón, San Juan Saint Kitts and Nevis St Kitts Saint Lucia St. Lucia Trinidad and Tobago Trinidad and Tabago Turks and Caicos Islands Turks and Caicos Virgin Islands, British Tortola Virgin Islands, U.s. St. Croix, St. Thomas
For this cruise, we found a rate of $1,234 for the balcony stateroom. That’s $40 higher than found on most sites, but here’s the kicker — that price includes a $190 Costco Cash Card that can be used at the store. So for $80 more per cabin ($40 x 2 passengers), you are saving $190 — for a net of $110.
As you plan your next cruise, you’ll want to take into consideration the best and cheapest times to cruise and see what jibes with your vacation schedule. Here’s a when-to-cruise guide for some popular destinations.

We also spent 80 days in Paris and there again we saved thousand of dollars with your 101 free things to do in Paris. We went to 20 free concerts, included the France Independence day celebration. 500,000 people including us at the free concert and firework show. AMAZING. We rode bikes almost everywhere and we eat and drank mostly at our wonderful apartment or picnicked at any of the wonderful parks, along the rivers and anywhere that we could set and watch life go bye. Basically we lived like the French.

Cruise Vacations 2018 | Get Greater Detail Here

What is the point of taking a cruise if you are “avoiding anything that costs” money – don’t drink alcohol, avoid the casino, avoid the spa, avoid the restaurant…the article is pretty much saying “You can take a cruise but don’t expect to have any fun unless you can do it sober laying on a chair quietly”
I’m a solo traveler and most of of the time I stay in a dorm bed in hostels. Are these fares per person or per cabin? Are there websites where people can get together to share a double room on a ship? I’ve never thought much about taking a cruise, but it seems like it might not be as bad as I thought!
Fantastica Drink Package: 12 beverage vouchers per person (Can be used in bars, restaurants and buffet and includes wine by the glass, non premium spirits and cocktails, soft drinks, mineral water, hot drinks and gelato. Child version available without alcohol.)*
I like cruises. I think a cruise is a great vacation because it is a chance to get away from everything and have a place where you can just relax. Sitting on a boat by the pool, drink in hand, without a care in the world. I eat well (all-day salad buffet), sleep well, head to the gym, and relax. I don’t think of it as “travel” but more of a relaxing break.
If you are loyal to one specific cruise line, then that’s ok for you. But if you want to see all your options, it’s better to do a search on an “aggregator” website that will search all the cruise lines for that perfect vacation.
One thing to know before you meet with a local travel agent is that many charge consulting fees for their time with you. Like many independent travel agents, luxury cruise specialist Lucy Hirleman, president of Berkshire Travel in Newfoundland, N.J., charges new clients a $50 nonrefundable trip deposit fee.
Yes, there are differences between booking directly with the cruise line versus using a travel agent. Most specifically, travel agents are known for giving more personalized service than cruise lines, though some cruise sales representatives can be attentive and helpful.
The What to Expect on a Cruise series, written by Cruise Critic’s editorial staff, is a resource guide, where we answer the most common questions about cruise ship life — including cruise food, cabins, drinks and onboard fun — as well as money matters before and during your cruise and visiting ports of call on your cruise.
Agents can also save you time, a value people often overlook. “Personally, I spend about three to four weeks planning our family cruises and I have been in the industry for 15 years,” says Nielsen. “Cruise is an amazing vacation but the choices are staggering; working with a travel professional can take the stress out of the booking process for you.”

Coiro makes a point that cruise-only agencies can offer the expertise of specialists. “Our cruise specialists live and breathe cruising. That’s all they do. They know all the ins and outs of finding the absolute best deals for every caller.”
“By far the biggest value a travel agent provides is that they are personal,” says Daly. “They hold your hand and will guide you on the decision-making process so that you can maximize your time and money. They have great relationships with cruise lines that will help negotiate the best cabin location and deal for you.”
I think my favorite tip of yours was to wait until the price for the cruise is in your price range. Although I want to agree with you that they drop they closer they get to the depart date, I can not say that is true for all cruises. Some cruises fill up months in advance. But yes, as you said being flexible in where you go will help with this.
Travel to Europe has slowed in recent years due to fear surrounding terror attacks, but Kaplan sums up the shift back to the region well: “The reality of life has set in with people — buyer age is higher in river cruising than the usual deep-water cruise buyer, and older passengers are more resilient; their body clock is running and there are things they want to do.” Regarding threats of terrorism, Kaplan notes: “People realize there are issues in the States, as well. They overcome the ‘oh my gosh.'”
The Freestyle Cruising thing ends up attracting a wide range of passengers, including some who prefer to dress formally on formal nights. So you can expect families and older folks along with a lot of romantic couples from all age ranges, primarily from the US and Canada.
It’s value that wave season has to offer. “If we see [cruise fares] below $100 per person, per day, then our agency deems this an incredible value considering the inclusive nature of cruising,” says Greg Coiro, CEO of Direct Line Cruises. “Keep in mind that most cruising includes your accommodations, transportation costs to your destination, entertainment, meals plus so much more. All of this is typically included within the price you pay. And now that many cruise lines such as Celebrity and Norwegian are including free beverage packages, prepaid gratuities, internet and more, this further enhances the overall value and inclusiveness of cruising.”
The most upscale part of the Carnival family of cruise lines, Seabourn is another that operates small and luxurious ships with amazing service. This cruise is on the Seabourn Odyssey, which holds up to 450 passengers in its all-suite cabins. Passengers on these sailings tend to be more formal and traditional than those on the cheaper ships, and they get many extras such as free alcohol and shore excursions for their extra cost.
Get the best cruise deals to the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Northern Europe, and the Arab Emirates. MSC has Last minute offers, special rates for families and children, and promotions on Grand Voyages cruises. Enjoy your dream vacation with the best rates, and choose from worldwide destinations including: the sunny Greek Islands, the breathtaking scenery of the Norwegian Fjords, the turquoise waters of the Caribbean, or the opulence of Dubai.
Travel agents also can help with any special arrangements, whether it’s organizing a wedding ceremony in a port of call, ordering gluten-free meals, or dealing with accessibility or medical issues. They can also help with pre- or post-cruise travel, such as booking hotels and flights or arranging tours.

Norwegian has slashed rates by up to 84% for our customers. Also get exclusive shipboard credits of up to $150 per cabin on a variety of last-minute sailings to Cuba, the Bahamas, the Caribbean and more. Click here.
Great post Matt! Wish I would have found this a couple of weeks ago! I just returned from the sister ship of the Oasis —- the Allure of the Seas with the Western Caribbean cruise. I was able to get inside suites for $1800 for two. But I did save a bundle on booze! I found someone on ebay selling new Nexus bottles.
The best time to cruise and the cheapest time to cruise are not always the same. The best time to be on the water is often when the weather is nicest or when you have time off. These sailings are often the most popular, but best can quickly turn to worst when you face high prices and large crowds. The cheapest time to cruise is often when most travelers don’t want to go. You may find less ideal weather or some seasonal closures. But the lure of cheap fares and uncrowded ports might make you change your mind about what you consider the best time to cruise.
It looks like only Carnival will fit your needs for your dates and length. Unfortunately, Carnival doesn’t allow travel agents to discount prices so what you see on the Carnival site is probably the best there is. However, you may be able to get a bit of on board credit through a travel agent.
“Since most cruise lines have an abundance of inventory and capacity in the Caribbean islands, they all understand that they need to compete for this business,” says Coiro. “We have seen extremely competitive pricing in homeport markets such as New York, New Jersey and Baltimore with per-person fares starting as low as $55 per day.”
Tip 4: Avoid the restaurants — On most cruise ships these days, there are specialty restaurants that you can book for an added cost. Some are à la carte, some charge a set fee. (The sushi restaurant I tried on the Oasis of the Seas was à la carte.) Avoid these specialty restaurants. The food in the dining areas, the buffets, and the other shops is just as good and less costly. (If you do decide to book, doing so before you board can generally save you 25%. Doug also suggests looking for dining packages, as they work out cheaper, too.)

Fully equipped gyms with Technogym® gear and as well as on-hand personal trainers are available on hand to provide you with expert assistance. On deck, you will find swimming pools, a beautiful Power Walking Track with a sea view, as well as outdoor and indoor tennis courts, volleyball or basketball and squash.
You can also book early, but I find last-minute bookings to be the best. And since you are booking close to departure, you need to be flexible with where you are willing to go or OK with not booking the actual cruise even if you booked your flights.
To make sure we’re comparing apples to apples, we selected a popular cruise that should be available on every site searched. We selected a 7-day cruise aboard the Carnival Glory. The cruise in question departs July 7, 2018, with stops in Grand Turk, St. Thomas, San Juan, and Amber Cove, before returning to Miami. For our search we looked for the cheapest balcony cabin.
Many cruise lines decorate their ships for the Thanksgiving through New Years Day holiday season and have special on–board activities. If you have children, they usually have some time off school during this period. They can cruise around Thanksgiving, Christmas or the New Year without missing schoolwork. School breaks also coincide with Easter and other holidays such as Presidents’ Day. You will pay a premium to sail to the Caribbean during this period, but the trade–off in special celebrations or minimal disruption to your children’s school schedule may be worth it.
While aggregator websites sound complex, they are actually just search engine for travel bookings. In fact, you’ve likely searched on these sites before for a hotel or a rental car. These sites include the big names that you’ve seen advertised heavily on TV and the Internet:
Tip 3: Say no to photos — Do you really need some cheesy “professional” photos of your family? I didn’t think so. Get them done back home for less or take a digital camera and have someone take them for you on the ship.
Disadvantages: First, sometimes Costco has higher fares than what’s found on other sites. If booking a high-grade cabin (which usually has a higher incentive) then the incentive usually covers the price difference. You may not come out ahead if paying more for an interior room.
I did visit the spa once, but paid only $7.50 for the tip. When we returned to our cabin after dinner on our anniversary, there were a pair of gift cards on the bed, being guarded by our towel frog: a $50 spa gift card and a $25 wine gift card! While I was getting my deluxe manicure with shoulder massage, an elderly woman came in with her husband to spend HIS birthday gift card! (They were very sweet; he was so excited she was getting a gift for his birthday.) So if you are traveling on an anniversary or birthday, make note of it when you book. You just might get a bonus!
I was never interested in cruises until I found a $99 ALL IN repositioning cruise to Panama. Three days of basically transporting yourself on a floating spa. And cheaper than any flight. I found it on VacationsToGo – great site!

I’m not 100% sure, but I believe they are the same as Carnival and don’t allow travel agents to discount. I would think you would get more on board credit or other perks from a travel agency compared to Carnival due to the higher price.

There is a diverse program of activities on board, including spectacular Broadway-style shows in the theater, live music in the bars and lounges, a casino, sports activities and tournaments. Rich resort facilities are also offered including whirlpool tubs, multiple pools and Aqua Parks.

Take a repositioning cruise — Repositioning cruises are when cruise lines move ships from one part of the world to the next in anticipation of the upcoming season. These “cruises” are a great way to cross an ocean or sail down a continent’s coast on the cheap and can be found on any cruise booking website.
“Another great luxury value is on a 16-day Azamara transatlantic cruise from Miami to Portugal, with a price that is $800 less than the cruise line-direct price,” says Walker. “The client also receives two nights in Lisbon, tours and transfers, plus $350 in onboard credit — lead price is at $2,099 per person.”
For those that can afford it, luxury cruises are a great vacation option because they bundle so many different charges into one generally all-inclusive price. They can also be the only option if you’re looking for adventurous and exotic ports in increasingly popular destinations like the Galapagos and Antarctica.

Most schools have a break between June and August. Some employers make employees take their vacation time at some point during the summer months. Most cruise lines charge their highest prices for Caribbean cruises during the summer because of this, but it may be the best time for you if you’re under work constraints or have school–age children.

The other tips about bringing your own supplies, washing your own clothes are good tips though and I enjoyed the first part of the article about waiting to book tours/cruises late, I never would have thought of that – for some reason I always assumed the later you book the more expensive it would be but it makes sense that they would want a full cruise
This list below comprises the best-available rates (in January 2018) for 4- and 7-night Caribbean cruises for the month of March 2018, which is part of high season and a very popular time to travel. Prices go up and down depending on a variety of factors, but they all tend to move together so the rankings below don’t change much or at all.
I can travel cheap, and would certainly be washing my own clothes and only drinking water. (what’s with all the negativity in these comments? Sheesh). However, I will have to eat at some point. I assume you can’t bring food on with you? How possible is it to eat really cheap while on the cruise?
Great money-saving tips, Matt! There’s another you didn’t address, but that I have used. Cruise lines offer a shareholder benefit so anyone with a stock account can buy shares and get cash in their onboard account.
However, the big difference is that Costco offers special incentives to book through their site. While the deals change from day to day on aggregator websites, Costco’s incentives are simple and straightforward. If you book through them, then they offer Costco Cash Cards — essentially a gift card to Costco. The amounts can be high as well.

While Priceline may be famous for naming your price on hotel rooms, that’s not the case for cruises, unfortunately. Their rates are in line with competitors, charging $1,194 for a balcony room on the cruise in question.
Europe is so big that you can’t lump all its cruises together. The Mediterranean cruise season runs from April through November. Northern Europe and Baltic cruises have a shorter season running from May to October, while the warmer Greek islands and Canary Islands see cruise ships between March and December.
CARIBBEAN: You’ll Find Water in Every Shade of Blue. And, when it comes to beautiful beaches and sparkling blue waters, the Caribbean is really in a league of its own. Countless adventures within reach on your cruise vacation. Great Rates from just $299!
