Before you visit Peru, consult with your tour company and/or doctor about how to acclimate to its altitude, and what you should or should not do while you’re there, so you and your family won’t become sick. Some Peruvian cities are over 10,000 feet high.
When the Magic Kingdom opened in 1971, the site employed about 5,500 “cast members”.[44] Today, Walt Disney World employs more than 74,000 cast members,[45] spending more than $1.2 billion on payroll and $474 million on benefits each year. The largest single-site employer in the United States,[46][47] Walt Disney World has more than 3,700 job classifications. The resort also sponsors and operates the Walt Disney World College Program, an internship program that offers American college students (CP’s) the opportunity to live about 15 miles (24 km) off-site in four Disney-owned apartment complexes and work at the resort, and thereby provides much of the theme park and resort “front line” cast members. There is also the Walt Disney World International College Program, an internship program that offers international college students (ICP’s) from all over the world the same opportunity.
As Florida’s official state natural history museum, the Florida Museum of Natural History is constantly expanding with one-of-a-kind exhibits not seen anywhere else. While there you can choose to get up close and personal at a butterfly release in the Butterfly Rainforest, encourage your child’s curiosity inside the discovery room or come face to face with shark jaws ranging in height from 2–9 feet.
The Hawaiian Islands are a perfect vacation destination year round, and with summer being a time for family vacations, Oahu, home of Hawaii’s capital, Honolulu, has something for everyone. Surfing, snorkeling, and swimming are just the beginning. Hiking, deep-sea fishing, paddle boarding, and golf also attract travelers. A visit to Pearl Harbor is a history lesson and a reminder of our country’s past. Visitors can learn about the island culture at the Polynesian Cultural Center or experience the local cuisine. From sampling popular street foods like poke and shave ice to dining at sophisticated restaurants, food is always a key element of a Hawaiian vacation. At the Four Seasons Resort at Ko Olina, a short distance from Waikiki, Chef Michael Mina has opened Mina’s Fish House, a beachside spot serving fresh seafood caught in Hawaii’s clear waters.

Nighttime is perfect for The Island in Pigeon Forge, an entertainment hub with lighted water shows. Pleasant evenings also draw families to the area’s multiple mini-golf courses, including one in nearby Gatlinburg. Gatlinburg is also home to a surprisingly wonderful aquarium given its mountain location; penguins typically steal the show at Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies.
Nearly 3 million visitors come to Waikiki, Oahu’s iconic resort area, each year. Why? Because it boasts one of Hawaii’s best beaches, with tons of watersports, dining and shopping options. Plus, attractions like a zoo and an aquarium promise fun for all ages.
Both Hong Kong Disneyland Resort and Disneyland Paris Resort have room for future expansion.[87] Disney has made announcements regarding plans for another American theme park and CEO Robert Iger frequently has cited international expansion as one of the company’s three strategic priorities.[88]

U.S. travelers have historically overlooked Mauritius in favor of other Indian Ocean destinations like the Seychelles and Maldives. That could all change, though, now that this remote, idyllic island some 1,200 miles off the African coast has become easier to reach. A flurry of new airline services launched at the end of 2017: KLM began servicing Mauritius from Amsterdam, and British carrier Thomas Cook Airlines introduced biweekly flights in November. Upon arrival, travelers can take in dreamy lagoon views from the newly reopened One&Only Le Saint Géran, fresh off a multimillion-dollar renovation. Every room and suite now has a private terrace or balcony, marble baths with cascade showers, and sophisticated teak, stone, and leather accents. Guests can also look forward to updated dining experiences — like lunch spot La Pointe, which grills fresh-caught seafood over firewood and coconut embers, or open-air restaurant La Terrasse, which offers Mauritian specialties. Unchanged at Le Saint Géran is its aura of exclusivity, thanks to the resort’s unique position on a private peninsula jutting out from the island’s eastern shore. —Melanie Lieberman
Unique Museums: If you are traveling with someone who considers museums boring, you can change their mind by taking them to someplace unique and exciting, like the International Spy Museum in Washington, DC or the National Mustard Museum in Middleton, Wisconsin.
Visiting NYC in late May for 3 nights with an active 5 year old boy and 8 month old baby. What hotel would you suggest? $300 usd/night is our budget. My husband and I have been before and stayed in Times Square both times but would like to try a different area. Soho? Chelsea? Tribeca? We love shopping so want to do a bit of that but also want to do something fun our son would enjoy. Suggestions on what to do are also welcome 🙂
More than forty years after being founded, the resort now features 10 lifts, 169 runs and an uphill capacity of 17,400 people. Beginners ages 3 and up can learn skiing and snowboarding at the Snowbird Mountain School. Love the outdoors but not a fan of the slopes? The resort also offers ice skating, snow tubing, snowshoe tours and luge sleds. Parents can unwind with a stone massage or herbal wrap at the luxurious Cliff Spa.
Park Hopper Prices (gate price for admission to any of the four theme parks, including visiting more than one per day, including tax) – 3-day or longer tickets will be $21.30 less when purchased in advance.
Cool summer temperatures, just reaching the low 70s, make this mountain community a great place for escaping the summer heat to enjoy hiking, biking, and exploring. The gondola from Telluride to Mountain Village provides spectacular views of the San Juan Mountains along with a free ride to the quaint town, with its cobblestone streets, shops, and restaurants. Summer festivals also attract guests to the ski town during the off-season, and July’s event calendar is full, beginning with Independence Day fireworks and parade, and continuing with a Plein Air Art Festival, RIDE and Americana Music Festivals, a yoga festival, baseball camps, and Shakespeare in the Park. The Ah Haa School for the Arts offers classes in a range of subjects including painting, ceramics, jewelry making, and short story writing for those who seek a bit of enrichment along with a vacation. A stay at the charming Dunton Town House, with its clever, comfortable décor and convenient location will enhance a visit to Telluride at any time of year.
This German town lays claim to not one but two of the world’s greatest opera houses. Most music lovers know about the acoustically perfect Bayreuth Festspielhaus, built in 1876 by composer Richard Wagner as the home for his summer music festival. But the city also contains the grandest Baroque theater in the world, the Margravial Opera House, built between 1744 and 1748 by Princess Wilhelmina of Prussia. Named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2012, the theater has been closed for repairs for the past six years. It reopens in April 2018 with a performance of Artaserse by the 18th-century German composer Johann Adolph Hasse (tickets go on sale in February). Bayreuth also makes an excellent starting point from which to explore the rest of the region, famous for its hundreds of Bavarian biergartens and vineyards producing internationally renowned Franconian wines. —Christopher Tkaczyk

This Twenties mock-medieval mansion set in gorgeous parkland is surrounded by cottage annexes, a chapel and barn-style spa. Wilderness Adventures: Getting close to nature can be an experience of a lifetime, especially for those of us who spend most of our time working at a desk. There are many cool tours and safaris to go on in the United States that are great for kids and grown-ups alike. See the amazing Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights), polar bears, moose and other wildlife on one of the national parks or sign up for a week-long adventure. Find great things to do in the U.S.
One of the best shows at Disney is playing right outside your room at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. From your private balcony overlooking the 43-acre wildlife preserve, you can spot over 200 birds and animals, including zebras, giraffes, and gazelles. The resort also has a savannah-facing swimming pool modeled after a natural watering hole—but with a waterslide. Only a short walk away, you’ll find an animal observation water playground with squirting Venus flytraps, a rope bridge, and water cannons. In the evening, drop the kids at Simba’s Playhouse and enjoy a parents-only dinner at Jiko, an upscale restaurant serving African-inspired cuisine. Then make a reservation for the whole family to tour the grounds by open-air truck. With the assistance of special night-vision goggles, you’ll be able to wish all the animals a good night.
The Park Hopper Plus option adds visits equal to the number of park days on the ticket, except for the 1-day ticket, which includes 2 visits. A 2-day ticket has both 2 days of major park admission and 2 visits, a 3-day ticket has both 3 days of major park admission and 3 visits, and so forth. This is an incentive to buy the longer passes, so that you’ll get more visits for your money.

And generally a beach destination can deliver on all these fronts. So we’ve rounded up the best kid-friendly, tropical vacation spots that feature safe and fun places to play, kid-friendly restaurants, and all sorts of activities, even if the sun goes into hiding for a day or two. If your heart is set on a particular getaway, check their web site for current offers. In some cases, the property will offer a romantic package that you can add on to the cost of your stay, such as flowers or a gift that can be prepared ahead of time. In other cases, the romantic package will include the room rate as well. When you are researching the best places to vacation, it pays to check for packages.
In 1965, Walt Disney won a bid with the US Forest Service to develop Mineral King as a ski resort. The Sierra Club sued in June 1969 to stop the development, which was granted by the federal district judge. The Forest Service appealed and won at the appeal and the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court ruling left open to the Club the possibility of refiling. In the next round of lawsuits, the same district judge blocked the redevelopment. The injunction and the passage of the National Environmental Policy Act led to Disney backing out.[20]

  5. The first place you might head is Central Park, the city’s beautiful back yard. Stop for a park map at the information center at Central Park West and 59th Street or The Dairy Information Center at Mid-Park between 64th and 65th Street and get ready for some fun. Climb the stairs up to Belvedere Castle for the view. Stop at Conservatory Water where you can rent a model boat and the kids can take turns with the remote control, moving it around the pond. Sounds like your children may be too old for playgrounds, but they can work off some energy hiking a path through the Ramble, a section of the park that is still deep woods and streams. You’ll never believe you are in the heart of the city. It’s also fun to join the joggers around the park’s reservoir. If you want to splurge a bit, you can rent bikes and pedal around the park’s 843 acres, stretching from 59th to 110th streets.
The district soon began construction of drainage canals, and Disney built the first roads and the Magic Kingdom. The Contemporary Resort Hotel and Polynesian Village were also completed in time for the park’s opening on October 1, 1971.[10][11] The Palm and Magnolia golf courses near Magic Kingdom had opened a few weeks before, while Fort Wilderness opened a month later. 24 days after the park opened, Roy O. Disney dedicated the property and declared that it would be known as “Walt Disney World” in his brother’s honor. In his own words: “Everyone has heard of Ford cars. But have they all heard of Henry Ford, who started it all? Walt Disney World is in memory of the man who started it all, so people will know his name as long as Walt Disney World is here.” After the dedication, Roy Disney asked Walt’s widow, Lillian, what she thought of Walt Disney World. According to biographer Bob Thomas, she responded, “I think Walt would have approved.” Roy Disney died at age 78 on December 20, 1971, less than three months after the property opened.[12]

Highly recommended to anyone looking to experience the monuments and history of DC!” — TripAdvisor Reviewer
New York is busy around the holidays so be prepared for long lines at the most popular attractions – especially Christmas or winter related ones. Eg. The skating rink at Rockefeller Center can have insane lineups. Taxis can be better at times and subway can be better at times – it depends where you’re going (e.g. often going east/west can be faster by taxi as there won’t be a direct subway line). The cost for a family of 4 is often not the deciding factor as 4 tickets on the subway will be just as much as a taxi. That said, Uber is way better than a typical taxi so use it when you don’t want to take the subway.
This is the family-friendliest pick of the of the three Iberostar resorts on Montego Bay, with a kids’ club, water park, kids’ menus, and pull-out sofas in every room. The rooms are large enough to share with the kids, and the resort offers an awesome kids’ club with a water park, as well as a lazy river, an activities pool, and best of all, a rockin’ kids’ club with a water park, video game center, playground, pool, and arts and crafts. All-inclusive rates cover meals and drinks at the property’s six restaurants and six bars. Lucy’s Kids Club is free for kids ages four to 12, and has a (literally) cool water park, with a playground pool showered by fountains and a giant bucket that sprinkles water over the children as they play on slides and bridges. Babysitting is available for a fee.
Lake Buena Vista — Disney originally intended this area to become a complete community with multiple residences, shopping, and offices, but transformed the original homes into hotel lodging in the 1970s, which were demolished in the early 2000s to build Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa)

Hawaii’s Napili Kai Beach Resort, located on Maui, comes close to an all-inclusive resort. Kids’ activities are provided free of charge during the summer and peak seasons, kids ages 12 and younger eat free, and the resort is one of few that don’t charge a resort fee, meaning parking, beach gear and Wi-Fi are all included in nightly rates. The resort prides itself on its intimacy and family-friendly environment, and it shows in the number of guests who return year after year.

  6. While São Paulo’s concrete sprawl doesn’t offer the verdant beauty or mythic beaches of Rio de Janeiro, its thriving art and food scene has in recent years transformed what was once just Brazil’s financial capital into its cultural epicenter. Stroll the city’s gritty alleyways and avenues to see where celebrated street artists Os Gemeos and Eduardo Kobra got their start. São Paulo’s Art Biennial, which is second to Venice’s in longevity, kicks off in September 2018 and showcases contemporary talent, both international and homegrown. For a truly immersive experience into Brazilian fare, don’t miss Alex Atala’s D.O.M., named one of the best restaurants in the world. Atala champions native ingredients — from priprioca root to ants, often foraged from the Amazon region by the chef himself — and weaves them into his inventive dishes. The arrival of luxe hotel brands is another signal of the city’s burgeoning cosmopolitan status. The prestigious Oetker Collection, with only nine other properties (in glitzy places like Seychelles and the Côte d’Azur), recently opened Palácio Tangará, a gorgeously appointed mansion set in leafy Burle Marx Park, a welcome oasis from the city’s high-rises. The Four Seasons will also debut a new property in mid 2018, marking the brand’s first foray in the country. —Karen I. Chen
As for terra firma, beautiful Atlantic beaches await, along with wildlife at the Canaveral National Seashore, a beautiful barrier island National Park. We’ll be in Manhattan for a wedding in October and we’re bringing our 20-month-old toddler and a babysitter. We don’t want them venturing too far from where ever we stay? Is there a hotel with an on-site playspace? Or which hotel would you recommend is the closest to a safe and convenient playground? They don’t need anything more than a place to run around since the baby is not even 2.
Once a sleepy second fiddle to Southern culinary powerhouses like Charleston and Nashville, Greenville is stepping into the limelight with hot new restaurants. The town will soon be home to an outpost of Sean Brock’s heirloom-crop-focused Husk and a food-centric market hall called the Commons. Other recent additions include modern Italian spot Jianna from Michael Kramer (the opening executive chef of McCrady’s in Charleston, pre-Brock) and the moody speakeasy lounge Vault & Vator. It’s an impressive collection of quality restaurants for a city of just over 67,000.
This contemporary art museum is located in the heart of the Miami art scene. Their mission is to “expand interpretation of contemporary art,” and they do so by featuring cultural influences such as fashion and architecture into their programs. The Bass too holds educational programs in high regard. (Closed for renovations until December 2016, operating out of temporary exhibition space at the Miami Beach Regional Library.)
