Walt Disney World previously had its own small airport: the Walt Disney World Airport which was also known as the Lake Buena Vista STOLport. During the early 1970s, scheduled passenger service was operated by Shawnee Airlines with small de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter commuter turboprops which had STOL (short take off and landing) capabilities on flights to Tampa and Orlando. The airport is no longer in operation.

The main drag — vibrant Atlantic Avenue — is lined with bars offering live music, good restaurants and boutiques selling attractively priced clothes and gifts. The beaches are long, pristine and notably uncrowded. Those with green thumbs dig the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens with its bonsai collection, and for some old-time fun, visitors can play retro-pinball machines at the Silverball Museum. Traditionalists soak up an Old Florida vibe at the historic sunshine-yellow Colony Hotel & Cabaña Club. Free trolley service makes getting around a breeze.
Most of the royal wedding excitement will have settled down, and warmer weather will arrive in July. It’s the perfect time to take an open-top bus tour or stroll through Hyde Park or Kensington Gardens. The Changing of the Guard ceremony at the Palace should be on every visitor’s agenda as well. Wimbledon, London’s prestigious tennis tournament, begins on July 2 for two weeks of world class tennis and tradition, including the time-honored strawberries and cream. July events also include the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, the largest annual flower show in the world. Music fans will enjoy Lovebox at Gunnersbury Park, British Summertime in Hyde Park, All Points East in Victoria Park, and more.
“From looking at the outside of this vacation home, you would never believe what we found inside. We had eight adults and 12 children. It was amazing! Ample room for everyone, very well equipped, and beautiful. Pool table, foosball, and the theater room kept the younger children well occupied. The nearby Dells water parks, shows, and shopping kept everyone busy during the day.” — TripAdvisor Reviewer
We are looking for a nice modern hotel with some space in the room, maybe with a divider. We are staying for 6 nights. Currently looking at the Tryn Hotel, do you know of any similar style, size rooms, price…

Although this Playa del Carmen hotel includes “liquor drips” with free tequila right in your hotel room, it’s not a destination for spring breakers as no parties are allowed in rooms, and no wild partying can happen on the property either. It does, however, offer a good time at a budget price, surrounded by tropical palms on a beautiful powdery white sand beach. The buffet restaurant serves up a wide variety of dishes, and there are also themed international restaurants and live cooking shows, included in the all-inclusive packages. Guests can also enjoy swimming in the freshwater pool set right next to the sea, and indulging in a variety of treatments and massage at the Renova Spa. Entertainment is offered daily and includes dancing, live music and shows.

Some of the top destinations for families are the Caribbean, Florida, California and Hawaii, attracting vacationers with their sandy beaches and colorful sunsets, especially during the colder months and in the summer when there is no school and kids can get away for a longer vacation. Many families enjoy cruises which allow them to see many destinations in a short span of time. Mega cruise ships offer a wide variety of activities, from pools and waterslides to rock climbing and kids’ clubs. Consider the season – the destinations that work best in the spring and summer may not be as interesting in the winter. Resorts with water parks include the Arizona Grand Resort, the Lake Lanier Islands, the Gaylord Palms Resort. Unique getaways in the U.S. include The Cloister at Sea Island, The Bishop’s Lodge, Hilton Hawaiian Village and Grand Wailea Resort.
Nickelodeon fans, this is the place for you! Head to the Nickelodeon Village, home to the Aqua Nick water park, Just Kiddin’ Kids Club, Knick Knacks gift shop, open air theater, and Character Central, where you can interact with all the Nickelodeon characters you know and love!
In 1999, plans were announced for a new resort in Hong Kong, Hong Kong Disneyland, as a joint venture, Hong Kong International Theme Parks Ltd., between the Hong Kong Government and Disney Resorts. The Disney Wonder cruise ship began operation on August 15.

This upscale modern resort tucked in the scenic Marin Headlands, has an unusual pedigree: it was once an army base. The guestrooms are located in former officers’ residences, and open up to wide green spaces with plenty of room for playing tag, tossing Frisbees, and flying kites. No matter how you choose to keep yourself (and the kids) occupied, you’re always within view of the San Francisco skyline and the Golden Gate Bridge. There are miles of hiking and biking at nearby Golden Gate National Park, and many of the trails are easy for even tiny trekkers. Right next door (in the same cove as the resort), is the Bay Area Discovery Museum, with its Imagination Playground full of foam blocks for creative building, a 2.5-acre outdoor, interactive exploration area, and the new FabLab, a high-tech maker-space for kids opening in May 2016.
Both are great hotels. The Meridien is more central and right in the thick of things – Times Square is a short walk (10 blocks) in one direction and there’s a great playground in Central Park just 3 blocks in the opposite direction. The Meridien has a nice rooftop pool (enclosed) with great views. The Beacon is in a quieter location that feels more neighborhoody and with a good market/grocery nearby. No pool but the suites do have kitchenettes (a decent breakfast in NY can easily run $80 for a family of 4, so this will save you some money). Also close to Central Park.
Here’s the crucial bit: parents must feel they’re on holiday, too. Adults-only spa time, a romantic meal for two and decor that doesn’t scream ‘Wipe me!’ or ‘Don’t touch!’ all play a part in making the perfect family hotel.
While relaxing under the palm trees at this South Seas-styled paradise, families feel far removed from the hustle and bustle of Disney—even though they’re just a Monorail ride away (two stops to the Magic Kingdom; six to Epcot). Torch-lined walkways wind around koi ponds and beaches; rooms are in bungalows perched over water. The main draw for kids is the steaming faux volcano with its three-story waterslide, but there’s also an on-site supervised kids activity center (one sample art project involves creating an exploding mini volcano). Nighttime offers another awe-inspiring event—after the family-style luau—a beachside viewing of the Electric Water Pageant, a parade of illuminated floats.
In late 2015, Disney confirmed the addition of randomized secondary screenings and dogs trained to detect body-worn explosives within parks, in addition to metal detectors at entrances. It has also increased the number of uniformed security personnel at Walt Disney World and Disneyland properties.
First off, if you want to have access to the crown/top of the Statue of Liberty you need to reserve the Crown Ticket 2 to 4 months in advance on their website. AKA Hotels have several places to stay around the city. Large suites are good for families and many have kitchens. The top sights of NYC are spread around the city so there is no “best area to stay for families” – instead be sure you’re close to a subway stop. Kids under 45 inches/112 cm tall are free on the NYC subway. For everyone else get the $32 7-day unlimited travel card (if you’re in NYC for more than 4 days). Most taxis will only fit four. Instead, get the Uber or Lyft apps and use their services to get around the city (when you don’t use the subway). You’ll need at least 3 full days to see the top sites but could easily fill a week in NYC with not-stop sightseeing.
To better accommodate the millions who visit Iguazú Falls, a UNESCO site of 275 mighty waterfalls straddling the border of Argentina and Brazil, nearby Cataratas del Iguazú Airport is being modernized and enlarged. Within Iguazú National Park, the Ecological Jungle Train, which takes visitors on a 25-minute journey to the epic Devil’s Throat cascade, is converting from gas to environmentally friendly electric trains. Starting this February, travelers will be able to bed down at the long-awaited Awasi Iguazú resort where 14 rainforest villas will each have plunge pools and guests will have access to a personal excursion guide and 4WD vehicles. Expect visits to native Guarani tribes, river kayaking, and jungle treks led by a resident biologist. Selvaje, an upscale 12-room lodge, will also open early this year and will offer a menu of couple-friendly activities, from picnics to spa treatments. For the ultimate in romance, though, Argentinean travel outfitter Mai 10 (run by Travel + Leisure A-List Agent Maita Barrenechea) can arrange private dinners alongside the falls under the light of a full moon. —Nora Jean Walsh
New York is busy around the holidays so be prepared for long lines at the most popular attractions – especially Christmas or winter related ones. Eg. The skating rink at Rockefeller Center can have insane lineups. Taxis can be better at times and subway can be better at times – it depends where you’re going (e.g. often going east/west can be faster by taxi as there won’t be a direct subway line). The cost for a family of 4 is often not the deciding factor as 4 tickets on the subway will be just as much as a taxi. That said, Uber is way better than a typical taxi so use it when you don’t want to take the subway.
