Established in 1957, the Tallahassee Museum intertwines North Florida’s history, nature and wildlife through exhibits, special events and more. The Tallahassee Museum offers about 30 permanent exhibits and a wide range of opportunities to see native animals, such as the Florida panther or the red wolf, in their natural settings. The museum also offers zip-lining courses designed for the whole family.
Much of Walt Disney’s plans for his Progress City were abandoned after his death and after the company board decided that it did not want to be in the business of running a city. The concept evolved into the resort’s second theme park, EPCOT Center, which opened in 1982 (renamed EPCOT in 1996). While still emulating Walt Disney’s original idea of showcasing new technology, the park is closer to a world’s fair than a “community of tomorrow”. One of EPCOT’s main attractions is their world’s showcase which highlights 11 countries across the globe. Some of the urban planning concepts from the original idea of EPCOT would instead be integrated into the community of Celebration much later. The resort’s third theme park, Disney-MGM Studios (renamed Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2008), opened in 1989 and is inspired by show business. The resort’s fourth theme park, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, opened in 1998.

Hi. Wonderful article and gave me some good options for family-friendly hotels in NYC. I am currently booked in with free cancellation at the Four Points by Sheraton NY Downtown. Currently at $268 rate without breakfast, some of my discussions on Tripadvisor forums tell me thats it’s not the best deal and with a little more spend I can get better properties with breakfast. Breakfast is important since with kids its easier that way, I would be coming down in June, 1st week for 4 nights with my wife and 2 kids (aged 14 and 8, daughter and son). Considering it is not the right amount of time to see NYC, I would like to make the most of it and stay in a place which is accessible to sights and sounds my kids can enjoy. I understand the Hampton Inns have good deals with breakfasts and some of the ones which I did shortlist should I cancel the four points include: Hampton Inn Manhattan Times Square North, Best Western Premier Herald Square, Hampton Inn Empire State Building, Residence Inn NY Downtown WTC, and the Holiday Inn Express Chelsea. Considering I am bad with the NYC geography it would be great to get your views. Basically if I get something around USD 300/night, family rooms with 2 double/queen beds, inclusive of taxes it would be wonderful.
3) Is the Musical Hamilton suitable for kids/teenagers? We are trying to decide whether Hamilton or Matilda is better for the children. Any thoughts? (Any differences with locations of the 2 theaters and which is easier to get to?)
Beginning in 1958 with the contracting of Economics Research Associates (ERA) to find a location for another Disney resort, Disney Productions moved beyond a single park. ERA recommended Florida; another study in 1961 named Ocala or Orlando in Florida as possible locations. In November 1963, Walt Disney made a trip to Florida for final site selection.[CDW 1]:333, 334 In 1962, Disney Productions purchased Celebrity Sports Center (opened on September 17, 1960, in Denver, Colorado) from its owners, including Walt Disney, Art Linkletter, and John Payne, to use as a staff training center for its second resort. In 1963, Roy made plans to buy from 5,000 to 10,000 acres (2,000 to 4,000 ha), which was carried out in 1964, amassing 27,443 acres (11,106 ha) by October 1965.[CDW 2][CDW 3] Plans for the Florida project that would eventually become Walt Disney World were announced to the public in November 1965.[CDW 3] Legislation forming the Reedy Creek Improvement District was signed into law by Florida Governor Claude R. Kirk, Jr. on May 12, 1967, allowing Disney to build the infrastructure for the second park.[CDW 4] Ground breaking followed for the future Reedy Creek park on May 30.[CDW 5] In Roy O. Disney’s last act as CEO in 1968, he officially named the second park Walt Disney World.[CDW 1]:357

Holiday Weekends: During most times of the year, you can get away with last minute vacation planning, but major holidays like New Year’s, Memorial Day, Labor Day and Christmas often mean sold out airline seats and hotel rooms, so it’s a good idea to do your research and reservations ahead of time. People often postpone trip planning because it’s difficult to decide where to go and what to do. Browse our ideas by month section which includes suggestions for every month of the year as well as Valentine’s Day, Mothers & Fathers Days, fall foliage trips, 4th of July events and other trip ideas for families and couples.

In Maokong, families heading to the Taipei Zoo can hop aboard a gondola ride from the zoo up into the hills to enjoy the gorgeous views.
We are a family of five (children 9, 11, 12) staying in the times square area. What are some definite sights we need to go to with our children that is pocket friendly/free 🙂 to make this a memorable vacation? Also what are some good places to eat in that location?
With so much to see and do, why not take advantage of the Park Hopper Option? Then you can enjoy same-day admission to all 4 of our theme parks—Magic Kingdom park, Epcot, Disney’s Animal Kingdom park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios—on each day of your ticket.
Quirky and delightful, Augill Castle is located in the lovely Eden Valley between the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales. With the trappings of a neo-Gothic castle — tower, turrets, castellations and mullions — but in miniature, it appeals equally to children as to adults, and you’d be hard pressed to find a more family-friendly castle, with a tree house, playground and tennis court in its 15-acre grounds, and inside, a 12-seater cinema, not to mention the popular children’s cookery school. With its jaw-dropping landscapes (larger-than-life glaciers) and abundant sea and wildlife (humpback whales, sea lions and polar bears), Alaska is a must-see bucket-list destination for all ages. Opting for a cruise is a no-brainer: The mix of family-friendly onboard activities will keep all generations entertained, and water- and land-based tours make exploring the Final Frontier a cinch.
Outside of the hotel, no matter what your destination, city or beach, there’s definitely things to do and see! Our Family assistant will be delighted to point out the best activities for the whole family to enjoy, and the best child-friendly restaurants to eat at. While summer is in full swing in the northern hemisphere, it’s winter south of the equator. For travelers who can’t wait to get onto their snowboards or skis, a trip to Chile could be just the thing, especially if they’d like to brag about skiing down the side of a volcano. Several popular resorts, Portillo, El Colorado, and Valle Nevado are just hours away from Santiago, and there’s more to Chile in July than snow. Excellent wine is produced in Chile, waiting to be sampled along with their outstanding meat and seafood cuisine. Hiking and mountain biking attract visitors for outdoor adventures, and with clear skies and little light pollution, many stargazing sites are popular with tourists as well. Admirers of art, architecture, history, and shopping will find lots to enjoy in Santiago.
Both Hong Kong Disneyland Resort and Disneyland Paris Resort have room for future expansion. Disney has made announcements regarding plans for another American theme park and CEO Robert Iger frequently has cited international expansion as one of the company’s three strategic priorities.
I would go with the Doubletree owing to it’s location near Times Square – which we always tend to spend a lot of time at for a variety of reasons (e.g. buying theater tickets or getting on the Hop On/Hop Off buses). Both are good hotels though.
Art lovers of all ages can appreciate the beautiful unique-ness that is Salvador Dali. With an impressive and comprehensive collection of work, let your imagination run wild as you learn all about Surrealism.
A family-friendly gem in Lower Manhattan. Wall Street, the 9/11 Memorial, Brooklyn Bridge, and ferries to the Statue of Liberty are nearby. Subway just out the door. Standard rooms are comfortable and stylish or upgrade to a suite and enjoy extra space with separate sleep and living spaces. Glass-enclosed heated pool is very kid-friendly. Phone: 212-693-2001
This Renaissance-style museum is comprised of 21 galleries showcasing John Ringling’s impressive art collection including sculptures, European antiquities, and world-class masterpieces from esteemed artists such as Peter Paul Rubens. We will be headed to NY to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory April 13-16 (Easter Weekend). I’d rather walk to placed then take a cab everywhere but know we will have to take a cab some. Can you please recommend a moderate place to stay? It will by myself, my husband, and 2 children ages 6 and 7.
The most well-known family attraction in Huntsville is the U.S. Space and Rocket Center. Here, you’ll find an awe-inspiring collection of rockets (including a rare Saturn V), a space shuttle, and plenty of NASA memorabilia. This is an understandably popular attraction, so it’s a good idea to book your tickets in advance. If your kids are more interested in natural phenomena, they’ll be enchanted by the 1,000s of butterflies, along with turtles and frogs, in the Purdy Butterfly House at Huntsville Botanical Garden.
With more than 300 days of sunshine each year, the southeastern corner of Washington state is home to three flourishing viticultural regions: the Columbia, Walla Walla, and Yakima Valleys. But in recent years Walla Walla has come into its own as the next must-visit destination for oenophiles, golfers, and cyclists. With more than 140 wineries producing European-style Syrahs, Cabernets, and Merlots, there’s no shortage of tasting rooms in the valley, which hosts four weekend-long wine events each year. The region gets its first high-end resort in February, when Va Piano winemaker Justin Wylie and James Beard Award–winning chef Jason Wilson open the 10-suite Eritage on a 300-acre plot north of the city of Walla Walla.

This haven of Southern hospitality was voted the USA’s friendliest city in 2017 by readers of Condé Nast Traveler magazine. It also was named the No. 1 city south of the Mason-Dixon Line by Southern Living magazine readers. Step back in time by choosing a B&B in an antebellum home in the compact tourist area. Get a view of historic Fort Sumter from the waterfront Battery. Some come to this city just for the cuisine. (You can always diet after you get back home). Acclaimed Hyman’s Seafood won’t drown your budget. FIG —another award winner — serves creative, seasonally inspired cuisine and is worth a splurge.
Walt Disney Pictures took the Country Bear Jamboree attraction and made it into The Country Bears in 2002. In 2003, Disney Pictures issued two ride-based films in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and The Haunted Mansion. Pirates of the Caribbean launched a film series and a franchise. After four Pirates sequels, the franchise took in more than $5.4 billion worldwide.
Dreams Playa Mujeres Golf & Spa Resort offers plenty of fun for adults and children! Swim in any of the three pools, go snorkeling, or take a yoga class, among other exciting daily activities. Kids ages 3-17 will always find something exciting at the Explorer’s Club or Core Zone!

Located on the southern edge of Lake Erie is chilled-out Sandusky. This place is home to the Cedar Point amusement park, which draws rollercoaster-crazy visitors each year. It’s mostly for the thrill-seekers, but there are also gentler options available for younger children. Alternatively, you can take jet skis out on the lake or enjoy a stroll with stunning views along the Sandusky Bay Pathway.
